Warrior |
Sport Warrior is held firday nights at Martial Arts Plus. It is soft-weapon sparring with helmets and saftey weapons. There are no belt ranks, fees, or other requirements for you to play, so come join us if it sounds like fun, and bring friends!
Also played often on Friday nights, before Sport Warrior, is Rabbit Wars.
The rules for Sport Warrior at Martial Arts Plus are informal and specifics can change often, even several times in one night. But the basics remain the same.
Basic Rules of Sport Warrior
The following rules are always in effect
- All participants must wear helmets.
- No unarmed attacks.
- No attacks to groin.
- Any weapon strike to any part of the body, except groin, is an "elimination".
- Attacks must be clear and strong.
- Judge's call is never disputed.
Optional Rules of Sport Warrior
The following rules are not in effect, by default. Each rule below must be announced by a judge and/or agreed upon by the participants before the fight begins.
- Any named weapon may be thrown (e.g. knife, sai, nunchaku, and kama).
- Arm/hand strikes are not eliminations but the arm cannot be used that round.
- Leg/foot strikes are not eliminations but the leg cannot be used that round (must balance on one leg).
- Any named part of the body will not count as an elimination (e.g.: "hands don't count for elimination").
- Any named weapons may be restricted from use.
- Weapons may be used only by themselves or in pairs (e.g. "nunchaku cannot be combined with anything but a second nunchaku")
Organization of Games
Before sparring starts, any type of game can be chosen. Fights can be judged or the "honor system" can be used.
|
One-on-One - Participants are set against each other in pairs. Round ends when one participant has been eliminated. Game ends after three points has been reached by one participant.
|
|
|
Team Battle - Any number of participants are seperated into any number of teams. If judged, an elimination stops the fight, the eliminated participant sits out, then the round continues. If the Team Battle is not judged, an elimination will not pause the fight; those eliminated sit out while the round is finished.
|
|
|
Free-for-All - These are not normally judged. If you think you get hit: sit out. The name of the game is everyone against everyone else. All participants space themselves out as best they can and the last one not eliminated gets a point. Free-for-All games go until one participant reaches a required amount of points.
