| STRANGER ON THE SHORE I am a man who walks alone, along a lonely stretch of beach, Certain of only one thing in life, all that I once hoped for is out of reach. I hear a lonely sea gull cry, and a far off train whistle blow, A call to the sea and a call to land, and I'm not sure just where to go. Above, the moon hangs heavy there, as if it might just fall to earth. While I feel light enough to fly, to head skyward for all I'm worth. I am a man caught in between, the land and sea, the earth and sky. Even caught between two words, the word hello and the word goodbye. I feel the surf beckon me, that vast brother of loneliness. And thus lured by its certainty, I answer at last, yes, my brother, yes! copyright 2000 by Roland Ricker HOME EMAIL |
