THE CURRICULUM
Lorna
M. Marquardt Learning Center of Dasmariñas, Cavite, Inc. has plans &
programs that are appropriate for young children to ensure that each
child will be better prepared for formal schooling academically, socially,
economically, morally and spiritually. It
will adopt specific and different methods of teaching based on certain
Psychological principles: all
children are eager to explore new experiences; they have their own phase of
learning in natural levels of development; and they learn through their own
initiative. The curriculum will
integrate livelihood projects and programs to better equip them to family’s
earning.
Subjects,
Topi
The
curriculum focuses on the following areas of learning and development.
Physical Development. This includes
gross and fine motor coordination through play and manipulative activities like
game, simple work and those that develop physical fitness.
Personal-Social
Development. This involves skills
and behaviors pertaining to independence and social behavior. It includes development of health habits and independence in
dressing, eating, sleeping and toileting, relating with teachers, peers and
other people through group play and/or interaction. It also deals with the development of the ability to follow
rules and routines.
Learning
about the family and other people like the community helpers is part of the
concerns in the area.
Affective
Development. This includes the
experiences that help children develop love for God, self, others and community.
This
also helps the children develop awareness of their feelings and sense of right
and wrong.
Cognitive
Development. This include
development in the areas of communication skills and sensory-perceptual and
numeracy concepts and skills.
Communication Skills refers to compentancies in expressing one’s ideas and
feelings in both English and Filipino. It
includes facilities for oral expression and basic readiness skills of listening,
pre-reading and writing.
Sensory-perceptual and numeracy skills include development of concepts through
the ability to observe, discriminate, and see details, similarities and
differences, and to understand, count, read and write numbers.
Development of numeracy involves the development of skills in describing,
pairing, comparing, classifying and ordering (sequencing).
Money value and telling time maybe introduced.
Creative-Aesthetic
Development. Development in this
area includes exploration of sounds, music, creating songs, singing and creative
movements: art activities like exploring the use of art media such as crayons
and paints and drawing fall under this area.
Communication skills activities such as creation of poems, stories and
dramatizations are also included.
Livelihood concepts, in cooperation with parents,
will be introduced during the children’s play and experimental
activities. Research and experiments show that even at this level of learning
they can already classify, organize, test and modify experience.
Textbooks,
Literature, Research
For
effective learning, consideration
will be given in the selection of quality books and materials for the children
and the teachers. Books intended
for the development of 3R’s will be chosen.
These books must contain important concepts in Mathematics, Science,
English and Filipino that will develop the child’s perceptual, psychomotor and
cognitive skills. This must contain
exercises on reading, writing and learning about numbers and serve as
reinforcement of the subject matter taught each day.
The contents of the learners’ books will be within their level of
understanding that in turn will promote learning by doing.
As a result of the activity, the child’s enjoyment and learning process
take place simultaneously.
Encyclopedia intended for the children will be utilized for further development.
Christian books and literature available will be used to actualize
formation of Christian values in the formative years of the learners.
To enhance effectiveness of learning, the teachers will prepare the lessons and
references each day. Reference
books and materials for the subjects will be utilized and upgraded.
Likewise,
the school will subscribe literatures and journals or early childhood education
to abreast the teaching staff with the latest developments in teaching and
learning. Workshops, lectures,
convention, organizational meetings, and other means will be required for every
teacher to upgrade skills, knowledge and to develop creative thinking. At this
point, it has to be recognized that
the teachers are also in focus so that they could continue to render quality and
productive feelings. The
opportunities for their deepening commitments, advancements through formal
educations, and the availability of the instructional materials and facilities
will be provided too. Certainly,
these will be of help in molding the teachers lives and the young citizenry of
the target beneficiaries.
