A Short Memoir on the life of ...

Climatology and hydrology have always been my obsessions.  Growing up as a child in Kelowna, I always yearned for the powerful thunderstorm with its spectacular light show, and in the winter for a frostbiting winter snowstorm.  As I grew older I still enjoyed nature's own entertainment, but also began to wonder what drives the processes that lead to such extreme events.  The thirst for knowledge led to my partaking an education in Physical Geography.  At the university I developed my second obsession; hydrology.  Thank goodness I live in British Columbia where water is always abundant.

Recently I graduated from Simon Fraser University with a B.Sc. Degree in Physical Geography.  With hard work and a healthy supply of beer, I not only survived university, but also earned the Canadian Association of Geographers Undergraduate Award.  This award recognized me as the top graduate in Geography for my graduating year of 2000.  This award, along with a few others pleasantly decorate my rental suite in Coquitlam.

In the summer of 1999, while working for the National Water Research Institute, I modeled the snowpack meltwater storage for the Havikpak Watershed, near Inuvik, N.W.T.  The following summer I worked jointly with a Simon Fraser Master's student constructing a model for deglaciation for the Lower Thompson Valley.  These jobs illustrated to me the importance of having a strong background in GIS and remote sensing in order to undertake any industry or research based environmental project.  Currently I'm working for Eagle Mapping as a photogrammatrist.

My love for hydrology and climatology drove me into this field.  I hope to use my newly acquired GIS knowledge to further my career in the natural resource industry.  Currently I’m developing a database for my weather data that I’ve been collecting for the past 5 years.  Please visit my other pages to learn more about  me.
