terrorists You should always aim to rush through the main building as a T. However, if you are being overpowered or outmaneuvered by the CTs when you rush, you'll have to resort to holding the underpass and large exit of the main building. Note that the bridge/underpass is almost never a good rush. If you're on a public server with a larger team, a few guys going under bridge might be smart, but it's pretty much a death trap otherwise.
Scenario 2: The nervous Ts If you are constantly beaten back when trying to rush through the main building, your team will often naturally just "hang back" and will only go as far as defending outside the wide entrance to the main building. As a T defender, grenades are very important. If you know CTs are waiting inside, be sure to give them a taste of HE to at least lower their health. However, you need to watch out for retaliatory grenades heading back at youor you will lose whatever advantage you might have gained from your own 'nades. It is important to have T defenders on both sides of the wide entrance, otherwise oncoming CTs will have no trouble in concentrating their fire at the one-sided defense. A sniper positioned overlooking the T-end of the underpass is also very effective; from here you cannot only cover any CTs emerging from the underpass, but you can provide backup sniping for the wide-entrance defenders. After successfully holding back the CTs you can either lob a flashbang through the wide entrance and assault like in the first scenario or you can go the "underpass-way." To do this, leave at least one T holding the wide entrance to keep the CTs in the building occupied while the rest of the team rushes through the underpass (being covered by snipers) and up the ramp. From here, you can either choose to plant the bomb if the sites are undefended or, if you feel like tackling the force remains in the building, flank the CTs by rushing in any of the entrances.
Scenario 1: The rushing Ts Speed is of the essence. Quickly rush into the main building and make sure you aren't going to be flanked by a CT coming from an unexpected direction. At this point, it's wise for the Ts in the building to split upsome going right out the near exit toward the catwalk and the rest heading in the opposite direction toward bombsite A. If you're heading to bombsite A, lob a HE grenade or flashbang through the right exit as you run past, injuring (or at least disorientating) any advancing CTs trying to cut you off. If the bomb carrier is with you it's often effective to rush straight ahead into bombsite A, taking out any defenders and planting, giving you a tactical advantage. Alternatively, you can head out the right exitfollowing your grenade and ambushing any waiting CTs. From that position you can either choose to head left through the double doors to site A or, if it's being defended, head straight on to bombsite B. If you can keep up the speed, the defending CTs won't have time to position themselves effectively or coordinate their defense. In this strategy, a good sniper or rifleman may hang back and camp in the dark corner (picture above), shooting any CTs he happens to see. This should be done is your team is fairly large (more than 5 players).
counter-terrorists As a CT, speed is the key. However, depending on the tactics the opposing Ts are using, you will have to adapt.
Scenario 1: The nervous Ts When Ts aren't rushing the main building, it is wise to exploit the fact by rushing inside it and into a position to cover the wide entrance (where the Ts usually enter). Nine times out of ten, outside that innocuous door will be Ts on either side waiting to give you a wake-up call with their AK-47s. Wise use of grenades here is crucial. It is a shrewd move for your team to either use no grenades or a whole barrage; no half hearted attempts. If you don't use any grenades and try to remain fairly quiet (walking to the entrance)you may be able to surprise the waiting Ts and gain the upper hand. On the other hand, you can throw a healthy volley of HE grenades and flashbangs out to either side to hurt and disorientate the enemy. However, if only one grenade is thrown, you might as well have thrown out a chicken that squawked, "I am about to come out!" As with any chokepoint, team timing of the assault here is vital. A CT defends a bridge/underpass rush from the catwalk. Snipers should provide backup to the leading players as they leap out of the entranceas there are often T snipers in waiting to the left. Leading CTs should be watchful of Ts hiding behind crates to either side. After taking out the preliminary defenders, take out any remaining Ts near the spawn or underpasssplitting the team up (going left and right) often proves useful in flanking any remaining Ts. In the early stages of this scenario, a CT or two should be stationed in positions able to cover any Ts advancing through the underpassthis will mean being flanked without warning is impossible. CTs should be positioned on the sniper's nest and/or the catwalk (near the large crate) to sufficently quell a terrorist rush (above right).
Scenario 2: The rushing Ts When Ts become confident and rush the main building, it can often be very difficult for the CTs to counter. However, in this situation, camping near the spawn is a very ineffective solution and is likely to get your team killed even more. Usually, the best answer is to fight fire with firerush those Ts back. Here, speed is extremely importanteven seconds wasted buying weapons at the spawn can make you too late. Your team should split up into a few groups. The first, and largest, group should quickly run toward the main building and turn right, entering bombsite A through the wooden double-doors. If you choose to be more passive-aggressive, hiding behind crates is a good way to catch the bomb player off-guard and wait for backup. If you are quick enough, you should avoid the first T grenades being thrown out through the front entrance as you run past. From bombsite A, you have the advantage of having no flankTs can only enter through the double-doors and the small exit to the main building. Once you have secured both these chokepoints, be prepared to assault any Ts in the building. While a couple of CTs hold the double doors, the rest of the group should enter the main building through the small door, taking out any terrorists they see and being vigilant of Ts to the left and down the hall. This group can then proceed down the hall or turn left and try to flank the remaining Ts. The second group, comprised of just a couple of players should leave the spawn and then travel left through the arches to the sniper's nest position over-looking the underpass. From here, the CTs can cover both exits on the main building as well as looking out for Ts advancing through the underpass. This group can often become outnumbered by the advancing Ts, but their job is just to hold out and distract the rushing Ts long enough for the main assault group to attack from the opposite direction. Optionally, a third small group can run straight-ahead and to the left of the large crate next to the front entrance. This can provide a third direction of fire to assist in confusing and flanking the Ts. Sometimes, when using this technique, the rushing Ts will just head straight to bombsite B, cutting between both your groups. In this case, you will need to get your attack groups to re-converge and assault the bombsite both through the main entrance and via the dark side tunnel.
frag hints CrateMania (tm) Dust made crates famous: use them. They provide excellent cover throughout the map and are useful not only for hiding from incoming fire but for preparing ambushes and defense. Don't always repeat the same tactic. (e.g. if you have been rushing the main building every round, use an alternative assault through the underpass) While dust's simple design may make the map seem "easy," you need to be watchful that you are covering both the underpass and the entrances/exits of the main building. Planting the bomb at either site will give you a tremendous advantage as a T. Both sites are only open to directions within one 180-degree sweep, making defense fairly easy seeing as you don't have to defend from behind. Sniping along the underpass can get quite hectic at times. Calculate the risk to see if you have any chance of getting through. If there are a couple of Ts AWPing from their end, it can be very difficult to proceed if you're CT. The same is true in the reverse situation. If you decide to go through, move quickly and strafe from side to side, taking cover in the shadows and behind crates.
