Inwai

Inwai is a diabolical spirit, a "head-stealing ghost" (his name means "obscenity" or "horrible thing"). He takes heads from those he encounters, and thereafter is able to summon the spirits of the heads he controls and torment them into doing his bidding. He is appears cloaked and wearing a large straw hat that shields his face. If this is ripped away, his head is revealed to be totally blank, with no face upon it, while beneath his robe are suspended several heads, severed, but still apparently alive, with rolling, staring eyes and writhing lips working soundlessly.

To make matters worse, Inwai cannot be properly killed. Even though his "body" may be destroyed, he will simply reappear the next night at the site of his hidden corpse. The only way he can be fully laid to rest, is to destroy his original body, hidden in a shallow grave under one of the shrines. Otherwise, if his manifested body is killed, it will simply dissipate into mist, leaving nothing, not even clothes or weapons behind.

Inwai's heads

Inwai has a selection of heads in his lair (say, a couple of dozen). Most of them are ordinary thugs or bandits (use the 25 point peasant bushi) killed when attempting to use the temple as a base or a refuge. No-one does that these days of course! He also has a number of ordinary folks (use normal stat.s), who include woodcutters, charcoal burners and a rich merchant whose coinage lies somewhere near the temple in a mound of leaves. The bandits who killed him and stole it never lived to carry it away.

There are also 4 ninja - use the 50 point generic ninja for three of them plus their leader (use the 100 point ninja, but increase the COM stat to 20 and add Seduction, 11-, since she is a talented kunoichi). They were trapped here by Inwai and killed one by one when they foolishly thought a haunted temple might make a good place to hide their equipment.

He also has the head of at least one or two decent samurai (they end up everywhere, really!)

Like all of the undead, these summoned spirits are destroyed by the light of day, so gain the same limitations with regard to it as Inwai has.
