Graphic Communications I, II
(Graphic Design)

This nine-week course will expose students to the world of contemporary graphic design.  Students will learn how to produce original, creative images using the professional software programs, Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.  Students will learn the fundamentals of commercial art and design by producing a series of projects including magazine covers, CD covers, movie advertisements, cereal boxes, and business cards.  Digital photography will also be introduced and incorporated into the Photoshop program. A professional portfolio will be assembled for final critique and saved to CD.

� Fundamentals of design�the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design
� Applying design fundamentals to practical applications via contemporary design projects
� Introduction to digital photography
� Careers in the printing and graphics industry, one of the largest career fields in the twin cities.

Graphic Communications II

This course will build upon the material covered in Graphic Communications I.  A range of complex design projects will be introduced using advanced techniques in Photoshop and InDesign.  Digital photography and scanning will be included as well.
