Classroom Storytime/Book Talk Visits
The children's librarian is happy to plan and present a storytime for your class, either themed around a subject of your choice, a holiday, or one of her choosing.  These storytimes include group stories (picture books or through storytelling), games, activities and a craft. She will also gladly come to "Book Talk" (give a short, catchy synopsis meant to encourage the children to read a title) books from a subject of your choosing or some of the new age appropriate titles that the library has purchased.  Provided scheduling allows the librarian can visit your classroom or, if you would like, a class field trip to the library can be scheduled.
Library Tour/Accelerated Reader Search
Many children may not be completely at ease in the library setting.  By planning a class field trip to tour the library where they can become comfortable searching for books (such as Accelerated Reader titles) you can truly change a childs reading habits.  We can pair this tour with a storytime if you'd like.
Classroom Project Book Displays
If a teacher is planning to do a large unit on a specific subject the library will gladly pull and display titles that may be of help to those students reasearching the subject.  This helps not only the students/teacher but the library as well.  Often the library will be bombarded with a large group of students looking for the same subject.  If given advance notice we can set up a checkout system limiting the checkout time for books in a certain subject area.  This allows ALL students to have access to titles and not just a few.
The Teacher's Assistant
Being an educator is often hectic and time consuming.  Often you are unable to make it to the library to do the research for an upcoming unit that you would like to find out more about.  If you call the library in advance (at least a day's notice) and speak to the children's librarian she will be happy to pull titles from the subject area of your choice.  Those books will then be held at the front desk for you so that you can simply stop by to check them out.
Summer Reading 2005-Summer Coalition
A community wide project has been started to get all of those providing summer services to children/youth to use the same summer theme.  The following groups are working together to use the theme "Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds":
Marion Co. Public Library
Marion County Cooperative Extension
21st Century-Partnered With
The LMS/HS Youth Center
Glasscock/Calvary Family Resource Center
Lebanon Elementary And West Marion Elementary

If you would like to learn more about this project and how you may become involved please contact Amy Morgeson .
