Like many other people that suffer with weight issues, I struggled all my life with being overweight.  I can remember as a child being heavy, and being picked on all the time.  As I got older, I got heavier. I tried diet after diet after diet.  I would lose a lot of weight then I would end up gaining it right back and then add a few more pounds to that.  I just resigned myself to the fact that no matter what I did, I would always be over weight.
I got to the point where it was hard for me to do anything. I couldn't move, if I walked for a few feet I was extremely out of breath.  I couldn't walk the two houses down to my fathers house without having to stop and take a breath.  I couldn't drive because I couldn't fit behind the steering wheel. It was hard for me to take care of my kids, and get things done that I needed too. I was embarressed to go anywhere, or do anything.  I had some good friends come to meet me, and when they wanted to go out exploring New Bern, I was like, and you won't be embarressed being seen with me? I was embarressed to be seen with me!!
In 2001, I finally got approved for the Gastric bypass surgery.  I was so happy.  My family was behind me, and the doctors were sure I was ready to have the surgery.  The only downfall of having been approved was that I had lost my mother just a week prior to having been approved for surgery. I was sure that the doctor wouldn't do the surgery when he found out, but he did. I was scheduled for the
Rouex-en-y Gastric By-pass on November 26, 2001.  My journey was long and hard, to get to this point, but in my opinion, very worth the struggle.
