My name is Marian Haarink-Getkate.
I have been making teddy bears for some eight years now.
I give weekend workshops to small groups of bear-lovers in our ‘Bear Lodge’.
I am not new to teaching: I have worked with primary-school infants for 30 years. For the past year or four, however, I have devoted my time and energy to making mini-bears.I prefer to use a wide variety of materials in my bears, as this enables greater expression. The most important aspect is the form; a bead often suffices as a finishing touch.
I went to many Bear-fairs in Europe to show and sell my bears.
That this is a good approach is supported by my being nominated for several competions for mini-bears.
At competitions for mini-bears at Teddybär-Total in Hennef (Cologne), I got nominated three years in a row for the "Goldene George Award".
At the German "Meisterschaft" of Bearmaking at the Euro-teddy 2001, I got nominations in several years and different categories. As well at "Ted-Worldwide 2002" and Ted-Worldwide 2003. I also got a nomination for the "British Bear Artist Award 2002". In Swiss they nominated me at the "Swiss Bearfestival" in Sigriswil.
