THE WEBMISTRESS....

Hello !

My name is Maria and i'm the webmistress of this site.

I'm a 25 year old greek girl and have just been graduated in medecine.I will specialise in Belgium for 2 years in emergencies and family medecine.

As you may have guessed  i am ...obsessed with jack russell terriers! In real, i love all animals in this planet(exept for some insects, like spiders, bbbrrrr!),with a preference on dogs.I would love ,sooner or later,to breed my own lines of jack russell terriers,in Belgium or in Greece, but i must work hard at first, find the appropriate time and be able to own a beautiful jack bitch to start with.I'd like to have a small kennel based on the quality and not  on the  quantity of the dogs and give the proper informations to people  who are interested in them.

Unfortunately, because of my studies ,it isn't the right time for me to start with this, but i hope when i start working next year and have my own home,it'll be easier to begin with breeding. Actually,I try to stay informed about the breed the better i can(by reading ,taking photos, study them and pedigrees),i visit dog-shows and breeders to get to know everything about jacks and terriers(i plan to meet some breeders in  Australia too, later on!) and i keep contacts with jack-fans all over the world.I would like to thank all people who hellped me so far  and shared their experience with me  about the breed.

A slight comment about the breed

I think that there are some problems to resolve actually about jack russell terriers:In england ,the kennel club only recognises the Parson russells and every jack russell existing today has its roots in Parsons.Australian breeders imported "low heighted" parsons from England and crossed them with some other small terriers(norfolk terriers...),to end up to jack russells as we know them today. But observing some lines in Australia, some types of dogs seem to us ,in europe,a bit strange, meaning that we are not used in some kinds of heads(large ones with big ears, very small eyes, thin long muzzles) or types( very short leggs, sturdy type, heavy builded looking more like a corgi than a jack) or  by dogs slightly reaching the parson standard but "called" jack russells because of their "good" type and off-springs.We also notice many crosses between english dogs(for me, Parsons) and Australian dogs, that gave offsprings that are either Parsons either jacks either somethin between themBriefly ,it often ends at what we call  "parson-typed" jack russells or in very heavy ,not well balanced dogs who begin to be very appreciated by some australian judjes.

It seems thre are 3 kinds of dogs today:the official parson, the official jack and the "working" dog,who is called  an "under 12 inches" dog and has a type between a jack and a parson. For some people, especially hunters this intermediate type is called "the real jack russell" even if it can come from a litter of 2 parsons "higher than 12",or from a litter of an "under 12" and a parson.Theses dogs do not fit any official standard but are found in many pedigrees of "official jacks".Thoses people are used to count with "inches" ,we are used to count with inches AND TYPE .The differences between a jack and a parson is not limited in height of leggs but it is much more complicated than that! The understanding of thoses differences hellps us to be aware of what is a "real jack russell" and a "real parson" defined by the official FCI standards as 2 different breeds with the same origine. It is the type that fixes a breedand not the height! We all need to understand that to beggin breeding a more "homogene" type of dog,as the breeed is already enough heterogenous today!

A goal  i would like to achieve (and many other breeders i hope) ,is to stabilize the breed,by giving slim, "jack-type" jack russells,  with decreasing the "parson influence" ,which will need   years of selection and good breeding ,noticing that every jack genome has a bit of parson in it.If we consider jack russells right now, as a pure-bred dog, different from Parsons(people tend a lot to say "jacks are small parsons" )we have to achieve this goal !

Finally i hope that jack russells ,won't loose their hunting  instinct and ability ,for being transformed on  fancy show dogs(like westies)and end up on "living -room" dogs ,because of their increasing popularity and also that they won't be the targets of people who will get profit of the situation to increase their finances, avoiding the protection and improvement of the breed.

Among my other passions are:ballet dancing(i practised for 13 years in Greece),fitness, painting, playing piano, swimming, have fun and going out with friends,theatre,cooking,dog-shows and canin activities,reading,beauty...

Thoses are my first steps on the web.....have to learn much more and i'll do my best to make this site look better. If you have any suggestions or corrections to make, please feel free to contact me!

Every information published on this site is a part of my "own vision" about jack russells; If some of you don't approve what i write, please feel free to discuss it with me.

One of my futur plans are to publish a jack-site in greek  and add frames and java-scripts to my pages(browser doesn't support them for the moment!).

Wish you a happy jack surfing!

Maria
