History of StarBase Leviathan.

StarBase Leviathan started life as a sudden thought in the brain of a 15 year-old and came into being as an Internet site and Yahoo! Group on October 3rd, 2000. The first active ship was the Intrepid-class USS Infinity NCC-7539, crewed by some Year 11s from Shenfield High School in Essex as well as a Canadian and an Australian. It was joined by the flagship, Sovereign-class USS Rutland NCC-1748 in late November, also crewed mostly by Shenfield High School pupils (including two Sixth-Formers). There were also plans for an Akira-class ship, the USS Storm but it never really happened; nor did the USS Toronto or any of the other planned ships. The Miranda-class USS Wild saw service as a training ship for some months before disappearing into the ether and the holosuite program Galaxy-class USS Kestrel used to train propsective commanding officers is still in the files.

This situation continued with some of the crew going, new people coming, a couple gaining second characters and general movement until late 2001/early 2002, when the founder and owner effectively let the whole project slide. The Infinity disbanded, storylines got more surreal and simming more erratic. A major shakeup occurred as first two members went to different schools (in September 2001) and then the two Sixth-Formers went to university (September 2002) and things started to die down considerably until one of them convinced most of her friends to join. Since then, SBL has gone from strength to strength to stand where it is today.

All the Infinity crew except one loyal member were never heard of again, most of the original members disappeared (including the founder) or at least dropped their participation to minimal levels and the website disappeared into cyberspace.

Now, instead of a few half-full ships with limited simming ideas and very little plot, there's just one ship and the StarBase crew (administration), but more plot than your average writers' convention, a number of players with three fully-operational characters and only a very small number of non-simming crew (who have expressed a wish to remain attached to the group).

Here's hoping the trend of incoming members continues, and StarBase Leviathan continues for another 5 years.

During the course of SBL's existence, the Rutland was blown up to be replaced by the current active ship, the Leviathan-class USS Falchion NCC-82610, and various crewmembers were created, killed and never seen again. The Infinity's crew was convicted of being a bunch of hairdressers for their lack of inspiration, various people went through the Commanding Officer Training School aboard the holographic Kestrel, the Wild made a number of people worthy of simming in 'real' groups and StarBase Leviathan saw a Borg invasion, some Romulan incursions followed by peace, Klingon dissenters, Antican and Selay troubles, new races charging into the Galaxy and a crew formed of a bunch of bloodthirsty misfits and crazed artificial lifeforms.
