 What to use to replace Yahoo and Geocities? For email: GMAIL For site hosting and bloging: Wikia For forums: Proboards For News: CNN For local weather: Weather.com For Yahoo Answers: Wikianswers @ Wikia |
What? The cat's outta the
bag, dang! (==skip this message==). Like many of you all know, Geocities will be closing its doors on October 26th, 2009. I had previously decided to abandon Marapets and The Maradan Chronicles and basically let it rot; all the information would remain untouched, but online nevertheless. However, since the News about Geocities came out I have been debating on what to do with it. I certainly did not want the site that I worked so hard on, to be erased and forgotten. Yes, this is my site, nobody ever helped me to make it, just me. Although the subject is Marapets and the game was created by Laimay and Ian, I am sure most people would NOT put as much effort as I did into promoting their favorite game site. Not me, I love Marapets and I am determined to bring everyone I know to the site, as many people as possible, so that Marapets is someday as big as Neopets. Notice the link does NOT point to my referral link. I couldn't care less, I love this site and referrals are not what I am aiming for. I wanted to leave Marapets because I am too busy to keep playing in it. About the drop of Geocities, Yahoo doesn't know that that could be the beginning of their downfall. But the hell with them. There are tons of websites in the web that can replace Geocities AND Yahoo in a heartbeat. Look on the left and that's just a VERY small list of what I use. I have moved The Maradan Chronicles to this site, not only that, I have decided to take on a much bigger responsibility; to turn it to the biggest Marapets History and Encyclopedia in the whole internet. In a wiki! If you do not know what a Wiki is, it is basically a website ANYONE can edit. That means it is like Wikipedia. It sits on Wikia which was founded by members of the Wikipedia board of trustees. Wikia is the next big thing in the web and will perhaps replace Yahoo, someday. Wikia is made of thousands of contributors and has more impact that any blog. Information in it is more credible than any blog because the users will debate pages and subjects if the information in them is not correct! Right now, Yahoo only has ONE site that is irreplaceable, and that would be Flickr. If they decided to get rid of that too, they'd be goners. I expect to see you all in the Maradan Chronicles Wiki soon! Please visit us soon! |
