This is part two of my entry. I am extremely bored here at work so I figured I would (in between watching DVDs) type a play-by-play account of what I do on a typical third shift here at work. Snuggled into this corner of the lot, with the expressway up on a hill on just the other side of one fence and the railroad on the other side of the other fence, I have the noises of traffic and trains to listen to. Not very appealing, but at least there is activity to keep me occupied. If youve ever worked a third shift before, you know there can be times of feeling a little alone and isolated as night time is generally quieter outside.
6:00pm - I started my night by getting on post and watching a movie (The Cat In The Hat with Mike Myers)funny movie, not for kids though. Cant understand why they would make a childrens book into a movie that mostly contains adult content. Ah well. I also ate a couple of burritos and had some pop (my dinner).
7:30pm - I took a short break, stretched my legs outside a little, and took a brief walk around the lot.
8:00pm - Continued to watch televisions shows (not from a tv obviously, but shows I got from a site)Conan OBrienvery humorous and entertaining.
9:30pm - Again, I took a short break, stretched my legs outside a little, and took a longer walk around the lot. The thing I like most about third shifts is that even though it can be very isolating, theres a lot of time for self-reflection. I think a lot, and talk out loud to myself. I cover many subjects in-depth and usually come out feeling better about things afterwards. Im by myself out here, so I walk around talking about things that peak my interest and things that bother me. It can be very therapeutic at times, and sometimes I can get so engrossed in my thoughts that itll actually take up quite a bit of timethough I should be expanding my mind scholastically, so I am going to start bringing more books with me to work.
11:00pm - I started typing up this entry. I got bored, what can I say.
11:13pm - Im going to take a break now and go outside maybe for a few minutes, and then watch some DVDsoh man is it going to feel good to be able to get into my own bed tonight/tomorrow morning and sleepthough I could sleep here at work (shhh! Dont tell anyone ;-), though its not as comfortable to sleep here at work).
2:48pm - I just got done watching Forrest Gump. When the movie WASNT SCREWING UP (Thanks Matt), hehe, it was and always will be an awesome movie. I must have seen that movie a lot but every time it still brings a tear (or two) to my eyes. I talked to LaRain briefly earlier before I started the movieshe was tired, as am I, so she couldnt talk long. I have a couple hours left, so Im not sure if Im going to start another movie or just walk around outside (hey, I gotta save some for my later shift). Well, anyway, I suppose Im going to shut down the laptop for a little whileand if I dont get back on it before its time for me to leave, then thats a wrap for tonight.
A Night in the Life of a Security Guard. Pretty boring, wouldnt you agree? I suppose, however, that I would rather it be boring than to have to deal with people or robberies or what-not.
Goodnight all. |
