What is it about the fashion of the 80's and the early 90's? Sure, it had it's good points (call me crazy, but I do like the tights/skirt combination in the above photograph. It was one I found on Google). But man were they few in number. This site was built to pay homeage to all of the fashion disasters that we were subjected to as children. God bless our parents, but damn! Some of the things they made us wear.....or in some cases that we voluntarily wore....
Welcome to "What Were They Thinking?!" the hatelisting for the many fashion flops of the 80's and early 90's that have made me scream this a thousand times.
A hatelisting works the same as a fanlisting. Instead of uniting fans of a particular something so that they may rejoice in fandamonium, it unites all those that hate, or at least greatly dislike, a particular something so that they may come together and point and laugh at that something. Cause let's face it, there's nothing like a good group point and laugh.
Lets have a quick little run down of these many travesties, shall we?
- The floral pants *shudders*- late 80's to early 90's
- The big chunky plastic rings that came in a multitude of shapes and colours, some even had little beads or objects in them, that were so large they weighed down your hand and looked like you had some sort of odd growth coming off of your finger - early 90's
- The jeans with no leg room, that were so tight at the ankle it was a struggle in the mornings to get your foot through - 80's to early 90's
- The torn up jogging pant material headbands, the neon headbands, and the neon headbands with polka-dots - 80's to early 90's.
- Stretch pants! You know the ones. Some cotton, some spandex, most with these very uncomfortable elastic bands at the bottom of the legs that went around your feet - late 80's to early 90's
- The puffy dresses with lace and frills that made you look like you'd eaten someone and it had gone to your waist or thighs - mid 80's to early 90's
- The spandex pants and skirts with the large neon sign writing - mid 80's to early 90's
- The neon bikini's and one piece swimsuit's with the large black polka-dots - late 80's to early 90's
- The neon dresses with the large black polka-dots - late 80's to early 90's
- Anything that was neon with large black polka-dots
- The leopard/cheatah print clothing that was neon - late 80's early 90's
- Lets face it, just about everything neon that came out blew - most of it in the early 90's. What was the fixation in having things neon? No, I don't mean a slight splash of neon for effect to make something stand out, I mean spot you at a 1 000 mile radius neon. When did that much neon ever look good? And more importantly, who first came up with the idea? Why? Why?!
- The shirts with the big puffy sleeves and that had the material drawn into a bunch in the middle. You know the ones I mean *shudders* - early 90's
- The shirts and skirts that were drawn all funny around the edges or in the center, and had this frilly pattern on the edges, sometimes made with lace - early 90's
I'm sure I've managed to leave a number of things out, but you get the idea. Worst of all, in the past two months, I've seen these things come back! This past month especially! Every store I go in, I'm seeing most of the exact same shirts, pants, and skirts - all terrible. Even stores that use to sell more classy dresswear sells mostly bad 80's/early 90's comback clothing. It died for a very good reason.
So if you dislike these styles with a firey vengence, or get annoyed by them, then this is the hatelisting for you!
