1998 was the year for the '67 Newport. We bought it for $100.00 without a motor or tranny. We rebuilt it from the ground up. This had to be my favourite and the most exciting car we have ever run/built. It took lots of hard hits, rolled over once, standing straight on my nose. It was great! You gotta love derbyin'!!
The '67 Newport competed in 8 derbies before it finally died! Some of the local guys kept saying Oh, S*$@, not you again! - eh, Charlie (#81)?? We won 4 trophies, 2 for Sportsmanship. One was from the regional in Madoc and the other was from Tweed where I placed 2nd in the feature. This is where we retired this car. It had a 318, ran great, very strong southern car. Thanks Farmer The Dodge Man

Front view of the '67 Newport. I think the teeth scared them away! The car beside me is good friend Charlie Way #81. He's a great competitor.
Here's one of my sportsman trophies this one's from the Madoc derby. I believe receiving this was better than actually winning the feature. Not too many of these are given out.
Tweed, Ontario We finished 2nd in the feature with the '67 Newport and also won my second sportsman trophy of the season. The trophy was a memorial for Shawn Hautenbach who was a fellow derby driver. His life was taken away too early by a tragic motor accident. He will always be remembered by our team.
