Douse me with water! My needle is on fire! I estimate this costume to be at 70% completion now. |

The cuffs were a challenge for a few reasons. 1) My arms are different widths because my right arm is buff (and my left arm is wimpy). 2) Spacing the grommets was difficult. 3) Making a mock-up was tough - Chris had to help me hold it on, and it kept sliding etc. The top picture is not that great, but it does show that the vinyl is somewhat shiney. I know, I know, there is blue string. Gads! But I am going to buy all the ties and strings some other day. For now, this is holding the cuffs together. They are comfortable, and actually stay put without any rubberizing. |

Making the pouch/satchel thing was surely an exercise in frustration. First of all, this fabric is a bit "sticky" feeling (sueded), so it kept getting caught in my feed dogs. I recommend pinning like crazy, as this picture shows. Certain parts required handsewing, which is pretty tough. I wore a thimbal to prevent pushing the eye of the needle into my fingertip when trying to force the needle through the fabric. I used inverted French Seams so that they seams stick out. The pouch is about the size of a movie case, maybe a bit wider. The fringe was really easy, I just cut the fabric in straight lines. I hope it does not fray, or I will have to use fraycheck or something. I am still missing the 5 stud-things that make a V along the pouch flap. Maybe I will buy those along with the string for the cuffs and the yellow cord that goes around the waist of the shirt. |
