ASSASSINATION
Of Indira Gandhi

Mrs. Indira Gandhi was a strong, determined woman whose political career did not always run smoothly. But though her actions caused controversy, she is remembered as a woman who cared deeply about the people of India. Her ability to ride the roll coaster of Indian politics for so long that makes her a still-revered figure today. Gandhi, Indira Priyadarshini, Nehru, was prime minister of India from 1966-1977 and from 1980-1984.
Those days in 1984 the Sikhs were opposing the dicision of Mrs.Gandhi to send military force inside the Swaran Mandir in Amritsar to get the Mandir free from the Sikh Seperatists who had been contnuing their activities from inside the Mandir(Golden Temple). Mrs.Gandhi was fully determined to evacuate the Gurudwara because all the diplomatic efforts had failed. So the Operation 'blue star'was launched and completed successfully. This made Sikh seperatists very angry and they started targetting Mrs Gandhi.
Her controversial political career ended with her assassination by two security guards who were members of the Sikh religious group who were against Gandhi's government. "She was a great woman and a great statesman. She was also a very far sighted lady and a great administrator. As a mark of respect to the departed leader her birthday is observed as National Integration Day. She kept alive Gandhi and Nehru’s ideas about the democracy. The night before Indira died she said, "If I die today, every drop of my blood will invigorate the nation." She was able to make sure her son Rajiv was the next Prime Minister. No matter what happened, Indira stayed strong.
