| The Manak house- The cultural monument The Manak house was in Savamalska street at the begining of fourth decade of the 19th century. The building is named for Manak MIhailovic, a tzintzar emigrant from Macedonia, who bought the house in the 1870s. It is situated on the regulation traffic line of the old road that once conected City Gate ( Varos Kapija) and Savamala. The location on which is house built caused irregular form. The house includes basement which is built in stone, ground floor and storey -all designed in special strucural system. At the ground floor were bakehouse and tavern. The storey was reserved for his owner and his residential rooms. This kind of arrangement of innerspace and caracteristical oriels indicate on typical housestye of balkanian architectural tradition. |

| There are many legends and anecdotes linked with the old house of Belgrade. By one anecdote , this house was built for turkish " Aga" and his multitudinous harem. He left Belgrade becouse of upcoming new age in Serbia. Then, there is an indication that the house was post office of Duke Milos ( Knez Milos). There is a hypothesis, as well, that the house was a place for pleasure and fun , sort of Variete club in which women were playing and singing. The Manak house became a museum after a period of conservation and restauration during 1964- 1968. year. Then the College for protection of cultural monuments of Belgrade ( Zavod za zastitu spomenika kulture Beograd) had decided to set an permanent exibition and the Collection of Hristifor Crnilovic. Legacy was dedicated to Ethnographic Museum in Begrade to look after. This Museum organizes many other events from fields of culture in the Manak house as well. |
