I have never found anything on the Mattamuskeet music sound but there is paintings of it with the John White watercolors.

There was only one writing on the Music style of the Saponi.

Since the Saponi was almost identical with the Mattamuskeet in every way except houses then it is thought the music style would have been the same as well.

The Saponi's festivals would have a sound very much identical to the Aztec and Mayan sound.

Mouth Harps have been found among the NC Siouan villages so this may have been part. However I have never heard a mouth Harp in person so I do not know much about them.

The Saponi used only one drummer.  He would take two drum sticks and get a pieceof wood or board place in front of him ( a kettle filled half with water and a animal skin stretched over it may have been used as well).....the dancers would form a circle around him......the drummer would sing as the dancers danced.....at various points the drummer would yell loud at which point the dancers would reply with a yell.   Anyone who knows about drumming would know when 2 drum sticks are used then it would include a beat that is used by both hands....this is the sound of the Aztec and Mayan.

Since conch shells are very popular with the Mattamuskeet and the Saponi.....it is safe to say the saponi and Mattamuskeet used the Conch shell as a horn like the Aztec and Mayan,  It is well known that nearly every tribe in the world which lived on a coast of island had used the conch shell in this way.

Turtle shell rattles was found among the NC Siouan tribes.....and the John White water colors shows the Mattamuskeet using these Turtle shell rattles......so it is safe to say this was used in the festivals.
The Aztec and Mayan also use this.

A interesting thing is the Saponi and Mattamuskeet had a idol which they carved out of wood ( 3 have been recovered).  This idol statue  was used to watch over the dead until the adoption ceremony.....
well the idol did not have the look of the Saponi nor the Mattamuskeet, it had the look of the Florida tribes.  In the florida tribe's sketchs and paintings they are seen with a hollow stick type instrument, this same thing I have seen at the Mayan festivals......however i do not know much about this item so
it needs more research at this time.

So in all, if you want to hear the Saponi and Mattamuskeet sound then you should listen to some of the Aztec and Mayan festivals.  We did not use the drumming style of the common drumming style you see around the United States other tribes.  We had one drummer...however it is possible a second drummer could have been used with his own seprate drum (it would be too impossible to have 2 drummers both using 2 sticks each to beat on one drum).
