This will give a pretty good idea of the concept. The top frame shows a shell in the breach with the bolt closed. As the gun is fired and the spud travels down the barrel, it passes the gas sleeve near the muzzle. The high pressure gas runs through the sleeve and acts on a piston. The piston is forced back and opens the bolt. This ejects the empty shell and allows a new one to drop into place. A spring then closes the bolt and the cycle is complete. Not too complicated. I'll have to use photos to show much more detail, but they are forthcoming. |
