MY INTERPRETATIONS
First off, i want to say that Manson believes in that the listener can believe in whatever he or she wants about his mucic. So there isnt really any real meaning and all the meanings wont mean the same thing to other people, or somethin like that. Second, these are just my thoughts, my interpretations. It's just what i think, nothin more. I don't claim to know it all or know the real meanings. I would like to know other people's views and what they think. You can email me or catch me on aol instant messenger as Man5onMachine, or the Manson official bbs on www.marilynmanson.com or www.marilynmanson.net, (they are the same sites), as PornoNation. Third, some of my interpretations might just be misunderstandings (i hope not though). Also, since Manson is so damn brilliant, i can't type all my thoughts about his music cuz i have many many many things to say about it all. There isnt enough time or space for it all. I don't even know where to start really. But here it goes...

I want to start with Holy Wood (in the shadow of the valley of death), which starts his trilogy. He made them backwards. Each album itself has a story, but they can be linked together to complete the trilogy to make this big story. I know this is true cuz he said so himself but the title, Holy Wood, is not only a mockery of Holly Wood, but also sybolizes the wood that Lee Harvey Oswald's gun was made from (assasigned JFK), the wood that Christ was crucified on,  the wood so many coffins are made from and it's the place that Manson uses to describe where all the good things happen, a place that looks greener on the other side as opposed to Death Valley which is where the kids with no future are, the place that nobody wants to live in. The basic themes of this story is revolution and evolution. He mentions that alot. The story is autobiographical, he lives in Death Valley, and wants to live in Holy Wood. He is Adam. He wants the life of people in Holy Wood, thats so much better, but he realizes that it's not. He creates a revolution, it starts out strong but becomes another product and everything he was fightin for is now him. Probably the biggest theme on the album is 'you cant change the world, you can only change yourself'. I love how he talks about being a martyr and "if you die when there's no one watchin, then your ratings drop and you're forgotten, if you die on their tv, you are a martyr and a lamb of god". I believe this is very true. I think its sad that we live in a world like this too. But he also says, "nothing will change the world". He believes that humans are destined to destroy themselves. I also love the part in "The Nobodies", which wasnt written directly about Columbine, where he says,"some children died the other day, we fed machines and then we prayed, puked up and down in morbid faith, you should have seen the ratings that day". To me, the "machines" means papers, television, and shit like that. Again, true. Manson uses so many metahpors and is so symbolic. Another thing about this album is that the cover was banned from some stores. The banning of his cover proves the points that Manson is tryin to say. Religion is violent. The cover is Manson's face and art of Christ's body, with no cross, crucifiction in space, hence the song "Cruci-fiction In Space". It was banned cuz of the violence of the cover. Which to Manson, isnt violent. But the point is that they banned the cover of the violence and its was a picture of Christ, this proves his point.
