Friday 30th April 2004
Well, as I write this, it's Friday the 30th of April 2004 and
for those who are interested, it's 9:08pm. The Snooker semi
finals are being played and I have just checked my
E-Bay page
and found to my absolute joy that I've won my auction....!I
own an arcade cabinet!!!
Now all I have to do is tell my wife, find it a home and
the restore this slightly run down cabinet into a kick ass
Mame monster!
I discovered
Mame
about a month ago and since then I have been
hooked! I have decided to create this website to show my
attempt to convert a humble second hand machine into a fully
fledged cabinet and on this website I will journal all my
trials and tribulations. My highlights and lowlights will be
documented so that anyone planning a similar venture will
hopefully be inspired and can learn from my mistakes.
I must say that after discovering
Mame, I trawled the
internet and found a few sites showing you how to make your
own cabinet, supplying downloadable blueprints etc etc but I'm
not much of a carpenter and so chose the easy way out for a
Mame
cabinet newbie. The cost of my second hand
cabinet is only £41.00 excluding postage. The raw materials
and time it would take to build would far exceed this cost so
here's my helpful hint number one - E-Bay!
There are quite a few cabinets up for auction at any one
time all over the world, so it's worth checking E-Bay and
bidding for a half reasonable cabinet. My little baby had an
opening bid of £30.99 and there was a bid of bidding over its
initial few days. I decided to wait a while after the auction
opened before I started bidding just so that the opening
bidder would think he (or she) was onto a dead cert winner. I
was nearly pipped at the post - but a bit of sneaky bidding on
my part (I added a late bid of just £1.00 to the highest bid)
meant I won!
