Home Page/Front Page Once a theme has been determined the Web Master must create a dynamic front page or home page. This page will set the mood for the entire web site. And in web design this is the critical page since this page alone will decide if someone browsing the web will click a link to the world you have established in your site. Kristie Tamsevicius in “Dazzle Your Visitors With A Dynamic Home Page,” said it best when she stated, “First impressions are lasting.” But Tom Chaplin in “First Impressions are Everything,” goes even one step further with the “Wow Factor.” He maintains that a good or great web site has been spell checked and proof read and every error removed. Every link has been checked for validation and every graphic has been minimized to load quickly. A mistake on the home page can be the kiss of death for a web site. Were as Harper states that one of the main facets to a good web site is color scheme, Tamsevicius feels graphics play a bigger role then color. I have to agree that both are important but just as important are content or sparse use of content on the home page. Harper feels that a color scheme throughout a single web page is easy on the eyes and gives a web site a feel of professionalism. Tamsevicius feels that it’s professional graphics that play a big role in projecting a professional image to your visitors. Both of these elements appeal to a person’s sense of sight and provide them with a certain level of excitement or calmness. But these two elements combined with text or content on the home page can be a dynamic package that teases also the mind. And hopefully provides that “First Impressions are Lasting” and “Wow Factor”.
