Here's a picture of the carrot we
grew on the porch in our flower box.
We planted it during our week with
The Carrot Seed and pulled it
up later that summer when we read
The Runaway Bunny. Definitely not a
prize-winner but we liked it!

Runaway Bunny Lapbook
week of July 9, 2001
Additionally, we went on a nature walk in the park to find fallen, decomposing trees. We observed what creatures lived there with magnifying glasses. Afterwards we sat and drew what we had seen and I read aloud from a book on the habitat of a decomposing log called Log Hotel.
Here are photos we took on our nature walk!

Front cover of closed lapbook. Bunny is painted in watercolor by my daughter, done for one of the week's art projects. |

Lap book fully opened up |
Left hand side of lapbook opened up. Bottom left corner has an expandable type pocket (to put fingers in easier) of bunnies printed on to cardstock for counting. Upper image is a small copy of the book cover with author info. |
Shows closed top extension with rabbit coloring page. Flip it up and it has a few short facts about rabbits. |
Top extension lifted up to reveal information on rabbits on the underside as well as our vocabulary book. Pictures on the outside, name & definition on the inside.
|
Shows the science section. We went for a nature walk and charted the wind direction. Made a windsock from a lunch-size paper bag and streamers cut from a plastic grocery bag. Decorated the windsock and hung it out for our wind observations. |
Science section opened up. It is two index cards put together into a shutter-fold. Left side is from our nature walk and states what we saw. Right side is our chart of the wind direction we charted for the week. |
Right side of lapbook opened up. Top shows a small book we made. First we sequenced images of scenes from the book, then she "read" the book to me while I wrote her narration down. Then I typed it up and we pasted it all into the book. Below is a Corner-fold answer/questions about rabbits and story. Answers on the inside of the flip-ups.
|
Corner-fold opened up to reveal our letter of the week, "B". It asks "What is this letter and what sound does it make?" "Name some words that start with this sound." |
|
**Note: Vocabulary words for this story were
Crocus, Scarecrow, Burrow, Trapeze, Tightrope.
