Front of lapbook. Sports a Madeline image colored by my daughter. Is closed by a piece of yellow pipe cleaner threaded through a hole in each flap and twisted slightly. |
First level of lapbook opened up. |
Lower level of lapbook opened up. This is the center flap opened to the left. Our art lessons consisted of monochromatic and symmetric paintings. Between the two are two matchbook vocabulary minit-books on the terms. |
The Purple is a cup folded pocket holding 48 cutouts of Madeline and the girls, along with snips of cardstock with "math problems" written on them. The orange is a 3-part book with quotes from my daughter on what makes her smile, frown, sad. She narrated to me and I wrote them on the front, she illustrated inside, and glued the corresponding quote from Madeline inside as well. |

I like to include some movable manipulative in each lapbook/lesson. This time I cut out * 48 girls to use when doing the math lesson from the Five in a Row manual for Madeline. I took the oral math suggestions and wrote them onto cardstock and added in a fwe of my own... this activity was a BIG hit! *Note: print this pdf 4 times. If you'd like instructions on making the pocket to hold the Madeline counters click here. |
This is the center of the lapbook right when you open it up (upper level.) Top orange is the 3-part book on emotions, below that, in blue, are two vocabulary words: Appendix & Solemn, and at the bottom is a small map where my daughter colored in France and marked the Seine River and Paris. This geography lesson was reinforced daily by finding (and refinding) these on the map, globe &/or atlas. |

Open up the center flap. The backside of this flap looks like this. The yellow has an image from the internet of an outdoor cafe. Below is a pink "menu holder" with a red "menu" inside that holds what our French cafe served. My daughter wrote M-E-N-U on the front in capital letters for part of her handwriting lesson that day. |
Lift the yellow cafe image and under it is a photo of my daughter eating dinner one evening at our "French Cafe!" She really enjoyed this meal, as did the rest of us! Additionally, to the left is a small list she narrated to me of ways a person can get germs. To the right is a photo of the Eiffel Tower we made from Lego blocks. |
One day's handwriting lesson was copywork for our menu. |
 Center opened up |
Right flap of shutter fold lapbook. Top is a small sheet with rhyming words listed from Madeline. Below is a colored Eiffel Tower shape book. Inside is a fact on each page with a handrawn sketch of the tower by my daughter on the back page. |
We had a wonderful learning experience with Madeline and this lapbook serves as a nice, usable home for our memories! |
