Angus Lost Lapbook
from April 2002

When we rowed this book, the lessons we learned just sort of happened on their own. When I planned to row this book I had no intention of us covering as much as we did, but my daughter had questions. As a homeschool parent it was my job to allow us to find the answers. Below is the lapbook we made for this storybook. It covers our lessons quite nicely!
FrontFront cover of closed lapbook. Words are formed from black pipecleaners glued on. The closure is a pipe cleaner looped over a brad. lap book opened upLap book opened up. Shows sequence book on the milk process, a 4 point book, narration, & dog care list.

With first top flap opened up. The green milk process sequence book lifts up to reveal a "what to do when I'm lost" sheet we wrote up & discussed. Once it is lifted up an original story by my daughter is shown. It was her "sequel" to Angus Lost. She narrated this story to me and I typed it up for the lapbook. Truly darling!

With second flap opened up. Center flap lifts up to reveal 4 red minit-books on the types of caves (images on the outside, name and definiton on the inside), a small map printout showing the caves in the USA, and a cave shapebook. Daughter traced the cover page and glued images of animals to the inside. Definitions of each "level" of cave life are also inside. There are 3 pages with each depicting getting progressively deeper into the cave.

Left side of lapbook. Top is the book information. Below that is a game in a pocket.

Shows a closer view of the game. It was a More or Less game I made up. My daughter really enjoyed it and was quickly able to discern which of us had "more" or "less" instantly. Game boards (big ovals I printed out with "Yours" and "Mine" printed on them) and counters (small images of angus) were stored in the pocket.

Inside main center.

We learned about & discussed the milking process. I gathered images of each step to print. My daughter arranged them in sequential order and glued to the minitbook. She then dictated the step by step process to me which I typed and cut apart. She then glued each step to the matching picture.

Right side of lapbook. Upper minit book is the narration daughter gave for the book. This was handwritten by me onto the folded up wordsearch. Below is a sheet with a Dog Care list we wrote up when learning about what it takes to own a dog. (We do not currently own one, but I was very pleased to see that my daughter knew quite a lot about dog care!)

Shows wordsearch opened up. (My daughter loves to do wordsearches and I like them as they reinforce letter recoginition and beginning spelling.)

Each flap shows some of the encounters Angus had

Flaps lift up to further describe the encounter. Inside is also a print out of the parts of Angus.
