Basic
Dog
Treats
Mix together
3 1/2 cup unbleached flour,
2 cup whole wheat flour,
1 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup skim milk powder
1 tablespoon (or 1 package) dry yeast
3 1/2 cups lukewarm chicken or meat broth
Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm chicken or meat broth. The
richer this broth is, the better your dog will like the
biscuits. Let yeast broth mixture set 10 min. Then stir in flour
mixture. Roll resulting dough out 1/4" thick. Cut dog biscuit
shapes from dough. Brush biscuits with egg wash. Bake on greased
cookie sheets at 300* for 45 min. Then turn off oven and leave
in overnight to finish hardening. Makes 60 medium-sized
biscuits.

How to Make Dog Treats Ornaments
|
Christmas
is celebrated all over the world, and not just by humans. Here is a very
simple project you can do to let your dog know that he is part of the
family, too. Ornaments made from bone-shaped doggy treats can be hung
from the tree to let your canine friends know you care. They are
decorative and the best gift that Santa Paws can give!
|
| |
|
Steps: |
|
1. |
Purchase bone treats that
are shaped like a bone. I prefer the multicolor bones to add color to
the tree. |
| |
|
2. |
Tie a red or green ribbon around the middle of the bone use make big
loops so that you can hang it! Christmas morning sprinkle some of the
bones on the floor under the tree. |
| |
|
3. |
This project can be done
with the family and some dog tasting should make your Maltese feel
involved! |
| |
| |
|
|
| |
|
| |
|
Tips: |
 |
Leave
the bones natural so if your dog eats some prior to Christmas it will be
safe for your dog. |
| |
| |
|
Warnings: |
 |
Use unwired
ribbon, just in case the worst happens and your dog eats the ornament.
Ribbon and raffia will pass through a dog's system with a minimum of
discomfort |
How to Create a Gift Basket for a Dog Lover
|
It is easy to create a
custom gift basket for a dog lover. Just select a variety of items that
have a dog theme and pack them into a decorative basket chosen
especially for the recipient.
|
| |
|
Choosing the Gifts and Basket |
| |
|
Steps: |
|
1. |
Select the gifts
for the dog lover. Items with dog themes include fiction and nonfiction
books, dog calendars, coffee mugs, computer mouse pads, T-shirts, note
cards, stationery, dog magazines and picture frames. |
| |
|
2. |
Select some doggie
bones and dog chew toys for the pooch or pooches. |
| |
|
3. |
Pick a basket
style. Your choices include those with one handle, with two side handles
or without handles. Make certain the basket is large enough to hold the
gifts you have selected. |
| |
|
4. |
Decide on the
color of the basket by choosing one that complements the dog lover's
home decor. If in doubt, choose a neutral color by selecting a natural
wicker basket. |
| |
|
5. |
Use shredded paper
filling to make the gifts fit snugly in the basket. You can use wrapping
paper to tie in the color. |
| |
|
6. |
Buy a humorous dog
design greeting card. If you are computer savvy you can design a card
with their dog on the cover! |
| |
| |
|
Packing the Basket |
| |
|
Steps: |
|
1. |
Arrange each
present until you find the way it looks best. |
| |
|
2. |
Put a layer of
shredded paper filling on the bottom of the basket or dog themed
wrapping paper. |
| |
|
3. |
Place the wrapped
gifts vertically or horizontally in the basket, as space allows, pushing
the filling between gifts to ensure a very snug fit. Cover some of the
gifts completely with the filling to create mini surprises when the
basket is unpacked. |
| |
|
4. |
Place the basket
in the center of a large piece of clear or tinted cellophane gift wrap.
You may need two pieces of the wrap to completely cover a large basket.
|
| |
|
5. |
Bring all sides of
the wrap to a few inches above the top of the basket. Secure the wrap by
tying it with a long, colorful ribbon. |
| |
|
6. |
Tape your greeting
card onto the wrap. |
| |

Merry Christmas may all your puppies
dreams come true.
