The DNA laboratory is a research laboratory funded by the University of Malta. This laboratory works in collaboration with the laboratory of Molecular Genetics on campus and the aim of research is to identify the genes that are responsible for various human diseases such as:

Osteoporosis

and

Coeliac Disease

Genetic markers that are found to increase an individual's susceptibility for disease can be used as a diagnostic tool when screening for individuals at risk and thus helping in prevention.

These studies are useful for the better understanding of disease pathophysiology and can help in the identification of drug targets and the prediction of the response to treatment.
