Winter 94 found me rubbing shoulders with ...

.... the stars up north.  From roadshow  to  a  Smash  Hits media party, mingling with the likes of  Eternal,  Bad  Boys Inc (anyone remembered them!!), Sean  MaguireEYC plus an  upcoming  band  from   Ireland.   No  no,  Westlife  they were  not.  What  i  didn't anticipate  was  meeting  Sean  Maguire,  and i was blushing.  Oh dear!

GMEX, manchester uk

i
I took a weekend off my  3  weeks 'Great  UK  Escape' holiday to Manchester. No limo to take me this time since this was a coverage for Rediffusion only. My friend's boyfriend gave me a lift from Winsor and we took the M25 up to WIgan. Did a bit of shopping and look see around Chinatown and Affleck Palace and later went, in and out of  Manchester hoping to see a glimpse of  Take That. MNothing. Went to a gay club [don't ask me why] in WIgan and did more damages to my wallet buying gifts in Bolton before joining loads of mad pop fans at GMEx that night.

Smash Hits Road Show 1994 kicked off with new boybands, one of them being
Boyzone (they won Best New Act) but EYC's ranchy gyrating dance routine and the scrummy host singer, actor and presenter  SEAN MAGUIRE stole the show. Mmmmm...... Sean Maguire! [behave]

midlands hotel, adjacent to GMEX
Found a throng of excitable young girls and lads outside  the hotel  near GMEX right after the show. The commotion was EYC. They were  waving to fans from their hotel balcony. Hmm.. this was the hotel to be and .. it took me a while before I could get into the hotel  lobby. I had to convince  the doorman and bouncer that  i wasn't a groupie trying to get into the hotel but  a respectable 'foreign radio DJ @ work' in chilly Manchester. Showed him my invite, and i was in. The girls behind me looked on with envy.

Trey of EYC
The second i was in, Trey of EYC greeted me (interviewed EYC in  June earlier that year  when they were in Singapore) and  roped  me  into  the media party. It was good meeting him again. Anyone who has performed that night on the roadshow, were in the room too, but East 17 weren't there. Oh a roomful of stars!

Drinks with Sean Maguire
In April 1994, over a phone interview, Sean mentioned that he'd be hosting the roadshow but little did i anticipate meeting him here, left alone had vokda & soda with him! He was a gracious host to the end... got me more drinks and even signed my roadshow programme. Bless him. Sean was nominated Best Male at the Smash Hits Poll Winners a week later for his UK hit 'Someone to Love '. Aww.......
Damn it, i'm secretly a groupie! lol
[small perks of working in the industry wahaha ...]
what is Sean up to these days??
