the genre
One could say that Malinger
is in it's own genre. But since popular society needs to catgorize things,
Malinger
could be defined as "hard-rock". The band is generally influnenced by reggae,
rock, funk, and alternative music, or so it is reflected by their music.
One critic summed up the
general idea behind Malinger in a short review:
"Driving
sound blended with a gorgeous array of melody and deep vocals. The punch
of the rhythm guitars mixed with supernatural lead work and arrangement
floats above a precise and original low end comprised of insane bass lines
and incredible drum work. Great songwriting." - Mike Arcari
the
story so far...
Formed
in April of 2001, Malinger's 1st incarnation was comprised of 3
members. Jeff played the drums, Eric was one of two
guitar players, and Worm (aka, Mike) sang and played guitar
bass (at one time!). The band played one gig with this set-up, and soon
realized that they desperately needed a bass player to thicken the sound.
Groner
was introduced in mid-June by Eric, and he quickly became the backbone
of the rythm section. Yet again, in mere weeks, the band played a small
show with their entire set of 4 songs. This time, they knew what needed
to be done.
In
the months that followed, there weren't many shows at all, but there was
a lot of practicing. New songs were written, and a band was born. Malinger
became
firm in their goal to bring a whole new style of music to the masses.
Since
their conception in 2001, Malinger has been playing shows in the Mercer
County region of New Jersey. Among the stops the band has hit along their
way include various nights at Joe's Mill Hill Saloon, Mercer County Community
College, the Conduit, and KatManDu. The band has even travelled abroad
for other shows in the general region, including Stockton College and Rosemont
College.
In
2002, Malinger found the desire to begin honing in on their "style". Again,
it's hard to catagorize the amalgam created by Malinger. Expanding on their
music, Malinger continued to play live and gain popularity through music,
without any gimmick.
As
2003 creeps into the light, Malinger begins to gear up for a studio effort.
