Whose Line Taping – Sunday, March 11, 2001

I got into LA the night before, and was very excited for my first taping. Going to the taping was me, Ash, Chris, Nessa, Tashia, and Monika. We were going to meet Michelle, Laura, and Michelle’s brother Steve at the studio. Before the taping, we went to Jerry’s Deli for lunch, which was pretty cool. We then went to the taping…we got to the studio and parked in the garage. We were on the top level and looked down at the studio. There was a big group standing on the sidewalk, who yelled up at us to ask what show we were going to see. We told them Whose Line, and then wondered who they were and why they cared. Weird. : ) We got to the studio, and found a page who we told our names…luckily we had gotten on the production list, so we didn’t have to wait hours and hours on line. We filled out our little forms saying that they could use our image on television, blah blah blah, then stood around, went to the bathroom to make sure we could last through the taping, and took a bunch of pictures to pass the time. Finally, we went inside.

We were the first ones in there, and we stood waiting to get seated. We saw Luke standing over to the side (Ashley pointed him out to me). I waved to him. He was about to walk away, then stopped, came back, and waved. We all waved back at him again, saying how cute he was. We got our seats, which were in the main section, in the middle. We were afraid that we weren’t going to be high enough to see over the cameras, but it worked out. We sat and waited for everyone else to get seated. The seating went, from right to left—Monika, Tashia, me, Ash, Chris, Nessa, Michelle, Steve, and Laura. We had the little sheets of paper on our seats that asked us to fill out something for the games. Mine was for Whose Line, and I wrote, “Let’s get a rye and coke and go play some pai gow…little shoutout to my Vegas buddies! :) There was a weird guy sitting next to Monika on the other side, from Brooklyn, who tried to talk to me and Ash b/c we were from NJ. He was REALLY scary and strange. We all talked a bit, waiting for the rest of the studio to fill up. Finally, when everyone else was in, Dan came in and did his little spiel, with Ash and Tashia reciting it along with him. Then he introduced Drew, who took a few questions. Then Drew introduced the guys…Jeff Davis, Wayne, Colin, and Ryan.

It was so funny...one of the things that happened during the taping was that Colin started tickling Wayne's butt. I forget exactly HOW or WHY it happened, but Colin was doing that, and Wayne was just going crazy! He was jumping all over the place, and laughing and it was just hysterical! Everyone else was making fun of him because he was going crazy. Colin started tickling Ryan's butt, and Ryan was acting calm and saying that it doesn't bother him. Then Ryan tickled Colin's butt and he said that it was fine. So they were saying how Wayne's so weird because he's so ticklish on his butt. It was SO funny! Colin did that a bunch of times throughout the night, and then they did a credit reading with Ryan and Jeff holding Wayne down, and Colin tickling his butt. It was HILARIOUS. :)

During a break, Wayne came out and was answering questions...someone asked how he got to be on WL, and he said he auditioned after someone saw him on other shows. He mentioned that he had been on Kwik Wits, and Ash let out this big groan (expecting others to do the same). Wayne looked at her and said, "Hey, it was a great show! You weren't on it!" and some of the others in the audience kind of thought this was mean, so Wayne says, "I know her, so it's ok." :) Then Colin came out to answer some questions, and Ash and I were going crazy trying to think of something to ask! We were like, "We know everything about Colin, there's nothing to ask!" Of course afterwards, we had like 5 questions we thought of, but whatever. :)

Then the taping resumed, and they were doing the Drew games. Luke had been coming in and out of the area, sitting on the stairs and watching. Of course Ash and I were all oohing and ahhing and saying how cute he was. Most of the audience near him was looking at him, so that sort of got the guys attention. Then, seeing how Ash and I kept staring at him, Luke would pretend to look up at the stage, and then quick stare and us, with this cute "I see you looking at me" stare. :) He did that a couple of times, being the little ham that he is:) So of course every time he did it, Ash and I were giggling and laughing and exclaiming, because he kept staring at us! So by now all the guys are noticing that Luke kept staring at us, and we're going crazy because he's just so cute. So we're laughing with our hands over our mouths, both of us just hysterical, and Colin looks right at us, pretends to laugh with his hands over his mouth, and gives us this LOOK, totally making fun of us. We were DYING!! Then Luke kept doing it, and Ryan says, "I wonder whose son THAT is?" and everyone looked at Colin. It was adorable. Luke later came out with a little gun with Nerf balls, and looked at Drew and the audience near him, as if to say, “Should I do it?”. The people around him were saying yes, so he started shooting the gun at Drew. It was so cute. That kid is completely adorable.

A little later on, they were filming the opening and closing, and they said something like the camera was going to be on the audience. So Ash and I immediately started trying to find ourselves in the monitors up above, to make sure we look nice and everything…vain people that we are. :) Then we look back down at the stage, and we see Colin looking at us again. He pretends to look up at a monitor in front of him and make sure he looks okay, then looks at us like, "What are you DOING?" We of course died again. :) Also, a little while later, (we're not exactly sure if this is what happened, but Ash and I are pretty sure), Colin was kind of looking into the audience with this weird look on his face...like he was pursing his lips and making this funny face. So we gave him this weird look, and he smiled, then we smiled back. We were going crazy all night that Colin was acknowledging us! We're not positive that it was us that he was doing that face to, but when we gave him the look, he smiled, so we decided that it was us. :) Even if it wasn't. :)

During the Drew games, someone had clothespins, and the guys started trying to put them on Dan’s jacket without him noticing. It was SOOO funny! They kept throwing the pins to each other, and hiding them, and trying to get him. They finally got a couple on there, which stayed there for a while without him realizing it.. It was really cute.

After the taping was over, they mentioned that it was the last taping of the season, so Ash and I realized that Colin probably wasn't going to be at the Improv, since there wasn't going to be any reason for him to stay in LA. So we were a little sad, but happy that he noticed us in the audience at least. :) We were walking out, and we saw Wayne standing near the door. Nessa was a bit in front of us, and we saw him give her a hug. Then Ash ran up and said hi too and got a hug. Then got a hug from him. He was saying that he had to go, but if everyone else was getting Wayne hugs, I wasn’t missing out! :) Plus, he was the only one of the guys that I had never met. So I went up to him and said, "If everyone else is getting a hug, then I need one, too." He said, "Aww, thanks sweetheart," and I gave him a big ol' hug! :) It was sweet.

This is what Michelle wrote about the taping in her taping report (which can be accessed at her page…there’s some free plugging, Michelle :) )…the parts in italics are my own comments on the games:

Wayne: Light purple shirt and gray pants

Jeff: Gray suit, green shirt and tie

Colin: Red short sleeved shirt and black pants.

Ryan: Dark blue shirt, gray pants, tie, and his red and white saddle shoes.

Games played:

Hollywood Director

Colin: director

Ryan: doctor

Wayne: mobster shot and going to Ryan for help

Jeff: hitman after Wayne

Styles included Swedish porn, Busby Burkley musical, advertisements...

When Wayne entered he said he'd been shot in the but, so Ryan sucked the bullets out. It was a riot during the Swedish Porn style. Ryan sucked the bullets out of Wayne's butt then shot him again so he could suck them out again.

Questions Only: Charlie's angels

Ryan, Colin, Wayne and Jeff

Lots of gun aiming, “boinging”…very cute.

Scenes from a Hat

Ryan, Colin Wayne and Jeff

One of the things was something about bad lines to say to a woman, or bad things to say when you first meet someone. Colin came out and said, “What color is your poo in the morning?” Everyone just died, and throughout the taping, people made references to the poo comment.

Lets Make a Date

Jeff: contestant

Wayne: excited teenage girl that can't do the show without the help of her friends in the audience.

Colin: office nerd who has just earned his CPR certificate and is desperate to practice on the others

Ryan: witch who lures the beast back to her magic stool and then finds someone to kiss him and turn him into a prince.

Wayne pulled a woman out of the audience and she got really into playing up the scene with him. Colin started with mouth to mouth resuscitation on Wayne. When it was Ryan's turn he said give me a minute so the audience can read the novel. They commented several times during the night about how long the quirks were. Ryan made Colin go to sleep then drug him over to his stool. He then looked at Drew and tried to roll him over so he could join Colin. His chair wouldn't fit, so Ryan tried to lift him, but was not successful. He went back to Colin and whispered I'll find you someone lighter. For the second question, Colin performed the heimlich maneuver on Ryan, mouth to mouth resuscitation and finally grabbed at his pants which revived Ryan. For Ryan's second question he drug the audience member over to sit with Colin and that was the end. After getting mouth to mouth from Colin, Ryan grabbed a bunch of mints off Drew's desk. During a break in taping, Wayne said that Colin's mouth was actually on his during the mouth to mouth and that it was a very disturbing feeling.

When Ryan read his quirk, he had to sit there and try to figure it out (as did everyone else). Even after the game had started, you could see Ryan sitting there, reading his card and trying to figure out what the hell it said. The woman that Wayne pulled up was so cute, she really was into the scene and did a great job jumping up and down and screaming and everything. Colin was so funny giving mouth to mouth to everyone. After the scene, Ryan grabbed a handful of Altoids from Drew’s desk, and threw them into his mouth. A bunch fell on the floor…Ash noticed that they were cinnamon Altoids, and she mourned the waste of Altoids. : )

Bartender

Wayne: bartender

Jeff: in love with dogs

Colin: angry that is pogo stick broke

Ryan: problem with color blindness

Even though I love this game nothing too memorable comes to mind. I liked Ryan's the best. He refereed to Wayne as his white friend, and I liked the music he sang too

Film Dub:

Jeff, Ryan and Colin

I didn’t pay much attention to the video, because I was busy watching the guys…it was going to be the only chance I had to watch THEM, so they’re who I watched. : ) So, I barely even know what the game was about. :)

Party Quirks

Jeff: host

Wayne: Sumo wrestler challenging everyone

Colin: playing slot machines

Ryan: evolution of dogs walking and talking

Ryan did a good job of mixing the dog part with the party…he would be on the ground and barking, then turn it into a word. It was cute. Colin did the normal pulling of the arm and putting his hands by the others’ crotches. It was funny.

Weird Newscasters

Colin: anchor

Jeff: coanchor who is a Spanish speaking Mexican TV star doing a love scene with Colin

Wayne: sports as a spring break tight buns champion judging this year's contest

Ryan: weather as a backwoodsman who thinks the camera men are trespassing city folk

Wayne pulled out three audience members for the contest and then declared himself the winner. Ryan's quirk didn't go very far. He started by yelling at the cameras but when he saw the big camera, he held up his hands like he was at gun point and slowly started walking backwards. He almost tripped as he was walking back onto the stage. After the game Drew had to pick on him for that, so Ryan said that Drew's tripped six times to his one.

Infomercial: selling a snoring aid

Ryan and Colin

There were lots of props in the box, and Colin and Ryan had a fun time trying to think of ways to use them. At one point they both stuck the ends of a tube up their noses. At one point, Colin made Ryan explain a prop b/c he couldn’t think of anything (like the Old Asparagus Home Shopping). You could just see the funny looks on their faces as they tried to figure out stuff to say. : )

Whose Line

Colin: The Lone Ranger

Ryan: Tonto

I can't remember the exact wording of the line Ryan read first, but when reading it he told Colin to kiss him. Ryan grabbed him and Colin moved away. Then he looked at Ryan and said, I can't resist and kissed him on the lips. Colin can't say who's kissed who now:)

Duet: The Rat Pack

Wayne and Jeff sing to a yoga instructor

Drew asked for a woman in our section to say our occupation. Ash and I tried desperately to think of something that he would pick, but we couldn’t come up with anything. This song wasn’t really very good, which is why they probably did the gospel to the other woman.

Duet: Gospel

Wayne and Jeff sing to a long shorewoman

Irish Drinking Song: embarrassed by no money in your wallet

Wayne, Jeff, Colin and Ryan

Greatest Hits: songs of Norway

Ryan and Colin selling

Jeff and Wayne singing

Styles included Ska, speed metal, guns n roses, honky tonk, opera...

Colin and Ryan were by far the highlights of this game. The name of the song for Ska was small, small hole, big, bug fish. During the pick ups, Ryan said little, little hole instead, so Colin started riding him for that. Ryan also said that Honky Tonk sounded like a donkey being hit by a car.

At first they asked for a country with a lot of history. Greece was chosen, but then Keith wouldn’t let them do it because they had done Rome. Drew made some sarcastic comment, like, “Yeah, because Greece and Rome are the fucking same country.” Then they picked Norway, which was the subject for a bunch of jokes throughout the rest of the taping. Colin made a Greece comment during the game. Ryan kept saying “Honky Tonk” throughout the game, in this funny voice. It was really cute.

Newsflash

Jeff and Ryan reporters in the studio

Colin in front of skateboarder's wiping out

This caused quite a reaction from the crowd. Most of the skateboards landed very hard on their groin. I was dying laughing watching Ryan's reaction to it. Colin guessed surfers wiping out. I think that's the first time I've seen him guess wrong.

There was a point when all that was happening on the screen was the boarders wiping out and landing on their groin, so there was a minute or two when there was no talking at all, just the audience going, “Ohhh….ohhh….OHHHH….” and Colin looking confused. Ryan had the funniest reaction, he just kept laughing and sort of bending over, and kept saying “Ohhhh….OHHHH, man!” It was funny. I didn’t hear most of the comments Ryan and Jeff made, but they made a lot of “board” comments, and they said something about wiping out. Colin guessed surfboards, but it was close and the audience started clapping.

Sound Effects

Ryan: zoo keeper

Colin: Ryan's assistant

When a tornado alarm sounds, Ryan and Colin must move the animals to safety

Two girls, it was pretty funny. Colin kept making fun of their alarm sounds.

Show Stopping Number

Ryan, Colin and Wayne

Nothing really amazing, they kept having to stop and do the same number with different words. Not great. The one on the 100th episode was much funnier.

Number of Words: Scene from the movie Mummy

Colin: spunky female archeologist

Jeff: Colin's assistant

Wayne: the mummy

Ryan: rescuer

Colin was so funny in this one. He kept saying, "I'm spunky!" I love it when he includes part of his quirk in is dialogue.

Two Line Vocabulary

Colin: says anything

Ryan says, "Are you mad" and ?

Wayne says. “That’s not my thing” and “What should I do”

Colin was really funny in this game. It was a cute game over all. Ryan did a great job because he kept changing the way he said his two lines, so that it wasn’t just the same thing over and over. But it was so funny because Colin kind of got madder and madder as the scene progressed…Ryan would say, “Are you mad?” and Colin would say no and calm down. By the end of the scene, he was just going crazy!

Drew games:

World's worst: person to serve in the armed forces

Wayne, Drew, Colin and Ryan

Went on for a while, there were many times where there was a minute or two of just silence, nobody saying anything.. They stopped and then had to do a few more, and they made comments that now they could do the funny stuff. After they were done shooting this one, they were going back to their seats, and Colin said, “Oh, ARMED FORCES! OHHH!” It was so funny.

Foreign Film Dub: Norwegian

Drew and Jeff

Ryan translates for Drew and Colin translates for Jeff

Props

Drew and Ryan: two large red shoe shaped plastic props

Wayne and Jeff: two large green foam pointy props

Ryan went for the obvious, "Look my new shoes are here."

Wayne and Jeff had some good ones, and Drew and Ryan had a bit of a hard time coming up with things. They did some funny ones, but they had to think a lot. Then they stopped, and Dan made them do some more, so Wayne made comments that they had already done the obvious “grass-related” stuff, and Ryan and Drew were desperately trying to think of stuff to do. They stopped again, and then Dan made them do a few MORE. Ryan was getting really annoyed, and then they finally put the props away.

Hoe Down: cheating on your wife/girlfriend

Wayne, Drew, Colin and Ryan

They did this one two or three times. Drew had a lot of trouble but finally came up with a good one. I thought the first one Ryan did was good and for the last one he sang about he’s glad he’s done with the fucking props. I love it when he knows he had a good hoe down, so he can just cut loose on the ones that follow.

Three Headed Broadway Star: I love your baked goods

Wayne, Drew, and Ryan

with an audience member sitting in front

Credit Reading:

-Ryan and Jeff holding Wayne by the arms while Colin tickles his butt.

-Wayne and an audience member as excited teenage girls.

-Colin as an upstairs neighbor

Poor Wayne was dying when Colin was tickling his butt. Wayne's butt is very ticklish, and it took him several minutes after the finished reading the credits to regain his composure. Earlier in the taping Colin kept tickling his butt so that's why Drew had them tickle him while reading the credits. It was really funny earlier, because Wayne kept trying to tickle the other guy's butts, but none of them reacted to it.

At the end of the taping Wayne and Drew started trying to put clothes pins on Dan's clothes when he came back so then everyone got clothes pins and they kept trying to stick them on Dan's clothes when he walked by. Drew almost knocked over his desk, he was leaning so far over trying to pin Dan. At the end someone ended up sticking two clothes pins on him.

During a break in the taping someone asked Colin why he's always the woman and he said it's because he's not afraid to tap into his feminine side. Colin's son Luke was there again. He's the cutest little boy and such a character. When they were almost finished he came out with an air powered gun that shot nerf balls and aimed it at Drew. He started looking at the audience and of course we encouraged him to shoot Drew, so he shot about five nerf balls at him.

After the taping, we all went outside and waited for everyone to meet up. Nessa, Ash, and I dropped Chris off at home, and got some food, and went home. Thus was the end of my first taping adventure! :)
