Men in Black II starring Will Smith as agent J and Tommy Lee Jones as agent K was about ummm Well, Im not too certain. Lara Flynn Boyle played this snake creature, but Im not really sure what it is that she wanted.
You see, the movie, like the first MiB, was quite funny. Smith and Jones are fun to watch. Men in Black is a new take on the old buddy comedies, reminiscent of the Lethal Weapon movies or maybe even Rush Hour.
But no plot!!!! Why no plot? At first I thought I knew what was going on. It seems the snake creature wanted something called the Light and Will Smith has to deneuralize (basically revive his memory which was erased in the first movie) Tommy Lee Jones to solve the mystery. And this is where the movie has several plot points that make no sense. You see, after being deneuralized, agent K remembers everything that happened in his life, except for things that was erased by previous neuralizations. I say this because Jones ends up following a trail of clues he left for himself because
Bah!!! It doesnt really matter. Men in Black II is a bunch of jokes that dont even have the benefit of a coherent thought to carry the viewer to the end of the movie. Which is really a shame because plots about aliens doing things to big cities are a dime a dozen. They even had an alien in the movie who had been arrested for smuggling bits of the earths ozone. Now that sounds like an interesting story. I would have loved to watch a sci-fi comedy about some freaky alien stealing the ozone layer. Instead, I paid $6.50 and I didnt know what the hell was going on.
At least I laughed. But the special effects werent even that good. The cockroach thing in the first movie was much cooler than anything in this movie. I kind of figure a lot of the budget went into paying Smiths and Jones big fat 20 million dollar paychecks!!! Quite frankly, the movie is quite disappointing. And compared to the first movie, MIB 2 is just plain bad, even for a sequel. But they got my money, and theyll probably get most of your money too, if not in the theatres, then in the video stores, or on Pay PerVview. You know Im right! At some point you will see MiBII and probably MiBIII if and when it comes out. I hope they just put more than the 15 minutes of effort into the story line of any future sequels.
I give this movie a 7 and a great big WTF?!?!?
