Strictly 4 My Trekkies
By: MastaCSG

So the new Star Trek series is quite good, most Trekkies agree. Please emphasize the word Trekkies!!! You see, despite obvious attempts to make the show appeal to a wider audience, Enterprise is still a Star Trek series.

The pilot episode, Broken Bow, exceeded most of my expectations. The characters were interesting and the plot was intriguing. I find they did a really good job of introducing some familiar Star Trek concepts. The first contact with the Klingons, the first use of the phasers and the transporter beam all of these were done in a very casual and often comical way.

My favorite character so far is doctor Phlox, the alien medical officer who is on board as the "Interspecies Medical Exchange Program". I was also impressed with the fact that they went to the trouble to computer enhance doctor Phlox's smile. He seems to look at the rest of his crew as his lab rats, observing them with a wistful sense of intrusive curiosity. "I think those two are about to mate. Do you think they'll let me watch?"

The few letdowns of the show arose when the producers, obviously desperate for a wider fan base, made attempts to dumb down the show. First thing anyone would notice is the theme song. Why in God's name would they decide to end a 4 series legacy of heroic instrumentals with some kind of strange soft rock? And who are they trying to fool by omitting the words "Star Trek" from the title? "Duh, what's Enterprise? It is not a Star Trek series because I don't see the words Star Trek, so I can watch it and I won't be considered a nerd! Right?"

And shame on them for that sleazy scene of Subcommander T'Pol in her underwear. For those of you who haven't seen the show, the studly Texan first officer and the hot Vulcan woman have somehow become a biohazard and are forced to lube each other up with what can only be described as some kind of medicinal, body oil. The guy practically puts his hands down her panties!!! Oh my!!!

Regardless, it's still a Star Trek show. They can pump in as much cheesy soft rock and soft core Vulcan pornography as they like, Enterprise is still, strictly for my Trekkies!!! So let the cheesy internet survey's begin, as geeks worldwide unleash a Steve Urkel-esque laugh and snort, then proceed to ponder the wonders of Star Trek, like "Who's the best captain? Archer, Picard, Sisko, Kirk or Janeway?" and "Who's got the nicest rack? Jadzia Dax, Seven of Nine or Subcommander T'Pol?"
