Grand Strategy III: Revisionist War - 1939 events

May 1939: Claiming that they were responsible for a 'terrorist' attack upon her territory, Italy launched a sudden invasion of the Netherlands.

The French and German governments declared a trade embargo on Italy in reaction to her aggression against the Netherlands. Germany went further and despatched naval forces in order to evacuate the Dutch Government.

June 1939: The British and Japanese governments entered into a mutual defence agreement.

1st August 1939: Claiming a need for 'strategic depth', the Confederate government invaded Republic of Poland.

8th August 1939: After deliberations, the Soviet Union declared war on the Confederacy and began naval operations off her south coast.

9th August 1939: Italy reacted to the Russian action by declaring war on them and Poland.

10th August 1939: American forces enter Polish capital city at Warszawa. Resistance continues elsewhere in the country.

12th August 1939: Alarmed, Czechoslovakia ordered full mobilisation whilst remaining neutral.

20th August 1939: German troops begin moving into eastern Russia

1st September 1939: Germany declares war on The Confederate State of America and Italy.

8th September 1939: German troops move into action on the Russo-American border.

20th September 1939: Mechanised elements of German 1. Armee strike north of Memphis. Rail lines leading into the city are cut.

3rd October 1939: Lead elements of 1. Armee cut off and destroyed by Confederate forces. Americans begin using masses heavy artillery to break the Polish fortified positions around Katowice in Poland.

19th November 1939: Confederate forces enter Lodz. Polish government captured in attempt to flee.

21st November 1939: Polish army begins to disintegrate. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers surrender.

28th November 1939: American heavy artillery comes into range of Kharkov in the Ukraine.

1st December 1939: British army and Royal Marine forces land near Vladivostock, off the Russian coast, claiming a collapse in Russian authority.

2nd December 1939: Confederate troops enter the ruins of Kharkov.

3rd December 1939: Germany denounces British landing.

8th December 1939: Russia agrees to cede southern islands to the United Kingdom. Evacuation of Baku begins

16th December 1939: Russia and Germany sign a cease fire with Italy and the CSA

27th December 1939: Treaty of Lublin signed. Russia and Germany recognise American control of Poland. Border areas and modest reparations ceded by Russia.
