Leaving on Saturday lunchtime, we traveled to our friend's house, which Barney now regards as his second home (or weekend residence). After a nice dinner and rest, we went to the Stock Cars at Kings Lynn in the evening. Barney was very brave when we got there, wanting to come with us, however a walk round the noisy pits changed his mind, and he decided the safety of the van a better place. Thankfully I can park in the shade there, otherwise he would have to stay with me for the early part of the meeting.

After a nice evening, we returned to his house, where we were staying overnight, as it was along the way to the show venue on Sunday. I slept with Barney on our sleeping bag on his comfortable bed, just right for the warm weather. After our nicely prepared breakfast we set off for the show on the pleasantly warm Sunday morning, arriving comfortably with 1/2 hour to spare. I booked in and said our hellos. The park has some nice woodland walks, so we took advantage of this and exercised Barney.

Around the same number of dogs had entered as the last one, although my friends with the lurchers were absent. This was my only slight disappointment for the day, as I had wanted to inquire the details for their show next week. The show started and we entered our class, but were not picked. Later in the day we got 1st for Best Mover and 4th for Best Coat Dog. He had a bit of dandruff as he had started a molt and needed an extra brisk grooming. Usually a very brief brush is adequate. His nails were a little too long, he doesn't wear them down despite roadwork, and he only allows me to clip one or two at a time. His teeth are yellowing; Jessie's were good after 7 years of the same treatment, when she was 9. I can only put it down to him eating unseen items when we are out.

There were 2 lurchers there that we had met at SCAMPS last year. Talking to the owner later in the show, he said one had won coursing championships. The unsuitably short fastest recall was avoided until late in the show. It was a warm day, made even hotter in the suntrap offered by the venue. I tried to lure Barney to run, with the help of the other lurchers owner, but he still would not really try and so we only came a distant second. I had deliberately left it late, to run a hot, tired Barney, to see if I could discover how fit he really is.

So another pleasant show ended, and we journeyed home, stopping at my friends of course and even had a visit to the pub for a meal in the evening.
