A full gospel ship was sailing along;
The crew members sang a Holy Ghost song,
The water was smooth, and the wind was calm.
"Twas plain they rested in God's great palm.
A member went to the Captain one day
And said, "Captain, I feel led in a brand new way;
Now I'm not sure, but a fellow told me
Of a place nearby where the gifts are free.

"In this matter I feel much led of the lord."
So he cleared the rail and jumped overboard.
Another said, "Captain," in a drawled out tone,
"When I jump in this church, I feel so much alone,
And also I'd like to mention," he said,
"Your Sunday services are much too dead.
Now I know of a place where there's jumping galore,"
And he jumped the railing and swam toward shore.
Another came up with fire in his eyes,
"This tongues' stuff is a bunch of lies;
So without any talk or further adieu,
So long to you and "your messages too."
Still another came up with no burden you could see.
He paid his tithes to a man on T.V.
He said, "Captain, old boy, I've been told,
Of a meeting nearby with servies of gold.

"People are healed on your left and right,"
And the Devil's stirred up every night,
So I feel led in this most crucial hour
To follow the man with the greatest power."
The Captain said plainly, "My heart grieves;
The tree you see has nothing but leaves.
No roots, no fruits, it cannot stand;
Don't be fooled, my friend, by the brass in the band.

"It's not always the number or show that you see,
But it's steadiness, practice, and harmony."
"Nevertheless, Captain," he said,
"Everything here is much too dead,
I'm going to a place where I can be stirred."
And of this poor fellow no more is heard.
The Captain turned to the remaining crew;
"There's a thing or two I must say to you.

"If there's more who would like to go
To someone, somewhere with an outward show,
Then take off now, for I'm telling you
This old ship is going through."
The rest all stayed and are sailing along
With a Holy Ghost shout and a spirit-filled song.
Those who left are unheard of to this day,
But the Full Gospel Ship still sails on its way.
Better wait, my friend, before jumping overboard;
You may be led, but not of the Lord.
