IT WASN'T FATE, FRIEND

If with sorrow you have looked
At a funeral passing by
And within yourself have thought,
I'm so glad that it's not I,
Then be thankful, friend or neighbor,
For it's only by God's grace
That you are standing where you are
And not in the other's place.

Let us think back just a moment
Into your forsaken past
And the many times that you've faced death
And felt it coming fast:
The times you've lain on that sickbed
With fever raging high
And placed the praise upon fate's hand
That you happened not to die.

It wasn't the hand of fate that saved
When death was lurking near;
It wasn't good luck or just by chance
That you've lived a single year,
There's a purpose in life for you
And was from your very birth,
And for every other single person
That dwells upon this earth.

This purpose is for you and me
To lead the lost to God,
That down that straight and narrow path
Their feet might humbly trod,
What have you done for God today
To help someone who's sinned
To know and feel that God is real
And calm his life's whirlwind?
