Here's
Jim Olsen rehearsing Swing Shift, a community jazz ensemble in Eugene
Oregon. Jim's group rehearses every week and performs a variety of
concerts and dances in the southern Willamette valley area. The personnel
of the band is quite varied, ranging from high school students to dentists
and just about every one in between. And they're a great group of
folks, all involved in the music for the pure love of it.
I sat in with the band and they read a couple of my charts; Like Horace and Lament. They read them quite well and decided to add them to their book on the spot. I was pleased with their enthusiasm for my music. After the rehearsal, Jim and I spent some time talking about rehearsal techniques and other technical issues. We had a great time and I look forward to hearing more from this band and of Jim's great compositions and arrangements. |
