Making a Silicone Rubber Mould.

Second Half of Mould
2nddov1.jpg (113125 bytes) Roll out some clay " thick. Cut strips of this clay 1" wide, From these cut out dovetails and lay out around the sculpture keeping them " away. These dovetails will hold the rubber in place when making your resin composite reproductions.
2ndsil1.jpg (143095 bytes) Brush on three or more layers of silicone rubber, Let dry between coats.
2ndsilfin.jpg (133306 bytes) Put on " layer of thickened silicone rubber. Let dry.
Remove the dovetailed clay supports. Clean up the mould
Put a dam surround around the edge of the mould so that liquid resin will not spill out when the fibreglass matting and polyester resin mixture is laid on. Put in some clay wedges, starting from the outside so that when the mould is levered apart later, it will be an easier job. Brush some release wax over the clay.
Build up 6 layers of polyester resin and glass fibre matting. Roll the resin in with a small ridged roller. Let set for a day.
The mould is now ready to use.
