How do Affiliate programs work ?

The History of Affiliate Programs Amazon.com are thought to be the pioneers, and first to utilize affiliate programs and open it up to anyone with a web site on the Internet. They still use their affiliate program to sell a lot of products and services. Do they have the best affiliate program? That's a matter of opinion.
Most of the biggest companies and many other companies are using affiliate programs to sell their products and services. Some run their own programs or have other companies maintain their affiliate programs
.

How do Affiliate Programs work? Simply put affiliate programs are commission based or pay per click programs. You as a potential affiliate sign up for a particular company's affiliate program. Normally you would have to have a web site to place banners or links on, but some companies do supply replicated web sites.
Once approved you place a banner or text ad, provided by the company, on your web site or develop a page to advertise the company's products and services. The banner or text ad will contain a code that identifies you.
When a visitor to your web site clicks on the company's banner or link, goes to the company's web site, makes a purchase, you would receive a commission. Once you reach a certain commission amount, normally $25, as set out by the company in their affiliate agreement, they then send you a commission check.

What To look For In An Affiliate Program Once you have found an affiliate program that you would like to join always read the affiliate agreement. The agreement will spell out exactly what the company's, and your responsibilities are. Plus the agreement will tell you exactly how you are to be paid. If the agreement differs with the information on the company's affiliate information page then contact them for verification. Normally the agreement is binding.

Commissions You should look for a company that offers you at least 10% if not more. Unless the commission are big payouts. A 2% commission on a cruise package is not bad because the average sales is over $500.

Marketing Materials The company you choose should offer you a number of marketing options such as static banners of various sizes for you web site as well as text links. Some companies will send you newsletters that you may distribute to your mailing list.

Marketing Resources Your company should also provide a marketing resources page where you can get information on marketing to that particular target market. Also suggestions on what works well for other affiliates, etc.
They should never leave you high and dry.

Is the affiliate game for you ?

Would you like to start making money as an affiliate now? YES you can make money, but don't believe all the hype. The websites that tell you how easy it is to start making over a hundred grand a year in less than five minutes are exaggerating, it takes a little more than 5 Minutes. But yes you can make a ton of money, it takes time and determination, and HARD WORK, no it's not as easy as you would like to think, then again nothing decent in this world comes without hard work. You have to stick at it and make it work no matter what, these principals apply to any business. If you are really interested and really dedicated to making this work then GO FOR IT!!!

Focus on one product

If you become an affiliate I think that to become successful you should focus on one type of product, For example business and marketing, or health and beauty. If you do this you can start to build a niche for yourself where you can be number one, don't open another cyber mall, most of them don't make much if any money at all.

Build your own website

Yes that's right if your thinking seriously about this affiliate thing and you want to make money at it, open a website. Most of the affiliate programs will give you one to promote, it will be far more effective to build your own and provide link to your referral pages from there. This way you only have to promote one website instead of who knows how many referral URL's. If the company that you are affiliated with changes your referral page for whatever reason  all you have to do is change the link on your webpage, instead of loosing all that effort you put into promoting your referral URL. There are many other benefits to having your own website whether it's free or paid for, it will make things far better for you.

Market your website

Ok you've built a website, but before you can start making money you have to generate some traffic. There are tons of free  advertising programs out there, link exchanges and a whole lot more. Take advantage of every free marketing and advertising resource you can find, If you really want to make money then even try a few paid ones. Click Here for an awesome marketing resource, this can help generate tons of traffic to your site. Don't just restrict your advertising to then Internet, make business cards and fliers with your website URL on them and what people can expect to find on your website, then pass them out to as many people as possible and leave them every place you go. Remember a website with no traffic is useless.

Promote the Product not the Program

Yes you should promote the program and let people know how it works and its benefits. This can help to recruit people into your down - lines so they can make money for themselves and you, but remember don't go overboard. If you or people referred by you don't sell the product then the bottom line is you WONT make any money period.

Be Unique

Offer people things that other places don't. Offer to give bonuses to people that sign up as affiliates under you. Reward people for helping you.
