Prophet River Provincial Park
British Columbia, Canada
- Yours truly
Feel like a little nostalgia? Want to stretch your legs after a road-weary trip? Turn west off the Alaska Highway at Km 349.6 and head for Prophet River Provincial Park. This access road to the park (.6 kilometres) crosses an airstrip and a section of the old Alaska Highway (the Alcan).
Walk this portion and journey back to a magical time in our heritage. Place yourself in 1942 and imagine the men as they carved out this wilderness. Enjoy the solitude and experience the peace of mind it instills as you stroll down this lane through forested landscape. Take time to explore the site of an early road camp a short distance from the park campground.
Choose to camp in one of 40 sites situated above the Prophet River. Open from April to October, nature lovers, bird watchers, overnight campers, and avid fishermen will find this secluded area of northern BC a perfect spot to spend a day or two.
Whatever the season, Prophet River Provincial Park offers a host of wild life species from songbirds to mammals.

Listen to the spring music of the wood warblers calling in the aspens and for the clear vibrant high-pitched whistle-like bugle call of the elk during their fall mating.
This beautiful campsite hidden from the mainstream of traffic has as one of its features, a natural spring. Try a drink of its cool refreshing water.
With firewood, fire rings, picnic tables, garbage containers and outhouses provided, this campground is a pleasant stopping spot for the traveller. Whether you plan to stay for a daytime picnic or for the night, you will enjoy the wilderness life that this area offers.
