Daniel Field CD Release for 'Stranger Music'
On your left is the setlist from my set at the Daniel Field Release
Party.
I was lucky enough to be joined
by the impossibly handsome Jack Puzio from the Far From Luke days
for the entire set, and despite limited rehearsal time I think it
turned out perfectly.
Taking you through the set,
it began with the Chuck Berry classic No Particular Place to
Go (that's the 'Riding Along in Your Automobile' Song). Lost
+ Faded came next, followed by the Far From Luke hit Stand,
which sounded as good that night as it did 5 years ago! Jack
accompanied me on an extended verson of Sin Nomine and
played some guitar and provided harmonies on Alone. Because
it was Canada Day, Jack and I decided to perform some quality pieces
of Canadiana. The first was Coax Me by Sloan and we closed
with Long Time Running by the kings of Can-Rock (Rush notwithstanding)
The Tragically Hip. In between those Canadian staples, we rocked
out on one of Jack's newer songs (which at this point doesn't have
a title) and also performed a special acoustic version of As It
Seems (which I liked so much, it may be recorded soon).
When Dan came out to do his
set, I joined him for some of the tracks that I worked with him
on for his record - including some percussion on his version of
So Long, Babe Ruth!
Overall, the night was fantastic.
Ther was some apprehension in regards to the turnout (it being Canada
Day and all), but thanks to Dan's loyal fanbase he ended up packing
the place and that's always good for the opening acts!
Other
Notes:
For those of you who haven't
got their hands on a copy of DF's new record, I strongly suggest
you get your act together and get one - it's typical DF magic. There
are hooks-a-plenty, banjo licks and a song in the Motown tradition.
And if that isn't enough, there is a country version of So Long,
Babe Ruth! on it! (so now that I've been covered, does that mean
I've made it big?). For a taste of the tuneage, check out Dan's

It was great to once again share
the stage with the Polish Prince himself, Jack Puzio. The night
was testament to the unbelievable chemistry the two of us have to
be able to run through the tunes once or twice and have them performance
ready - if only the guy would move to Toronto so we could get a
band back together.
I managed to conquer my most
common performance demons (that being techincal difficulties and
forgetting lyrics) on this night. It was kinda nice to be able to
sit back and just play lead guitar on some tracks (guess it kinda
harkened back to the days of not fronting acts), not to mention
singing harmonies is where it's at.
Let me apologize to everyone
who had to endure my falsetto vocals during Coax Me. Usually my
falsetto is pretty solid, but not this time - hey, at least I remembered
the words!)
This may be the last show for
a while, so I'm glad it went as well as it did. Look forward to
seeing you all at the next one.
