"Maybe I shouldn't have suggested jumping off," Atlas commented airily as he trotted along.
"You think?" you ask snappishly, staring at your nose crosseyed.
"Why, yes, I do," Atlas replies. You give an exasperated sigh, and manage to shift your body so you can look ahead. Atlas seems to be traveling at a steady pace towards a huge oasis, with a large pool of water and extensive palm tree growth.
"Is that a mirage?" you ask.
"What's a mirage?"
"The oasis."
"Oh. Of course not! I don't think mirages get as big as this oasis. Then again, I don't think non-magical oasises get as big as the Eclipse, either."
"...Eclipse?"
"Yeah. It's called the Eclipse Oasis."
After a longer while of back-and-forth pointless conversation, Atlas comes to a halt by the side of the water. The air seems considerably cooler, and you push yourself off of Atlas's back.
"You can walk now?" Atlas asks.
You don't give him an answer, but stagger to the side of the water and stare at your reflection. There is the sound of a breeze traveling through the air behind you... But there is no breeze. A shadow is cast over your figure. You look behind yourself quickly, to see an equapha floating over you.
Hello, traveler. I see that Atlas has brung you here. Are you hurt?
Oddly familiar, the equapha is not moving his mouth, but you seem to hear its voice inside your head. You nod yes.
I am Isteo Straimel. If you apply some of the water to your wounds, they'll feel better Unfortuantely, they won't vanish. Your body will have to do that itself. "Er, thanks. How do you pronounce your name?" you ask bearily.
The equapha raises his eyebrows. You won't need to call me that. My name translates into Neon Lightning.
You dip your hand into the cool water, and dab it all over your face. Your scatches seem to stop throbbing instantly. You thank Neon Lightning again, and amuse yourself watching Atlas drink from the oasis.
