And now... The Garden!!
So, finally, I got round to doing stuff in the garden... I'm a born-again gardener! (don't faint, Dad) And, this is what it looks like.
With the exception of the Bleeding Heart close ups, all pictures were taken on 20th May 2004. A public holiday (Ascension Day) when, of all things, the sun had the temerity - nay the impertenence, to shine all day!
Centre (blue box) and the three pots at the front are tomato plants. Honest, guv! On the left paprika plants (bell peppers) but I don't think they will do much. On the right a rose. I can't remember what colour it is going to be...
At the front some kind of mixed flowers the nice man from the Green Party gave me. I said if they bloom I'd vote for him. The tall flat looking ones could be Irises. Or Freesias. Who knows? The titchy one in the middle is a snapdragon, and between the mystery things are a couple of sweet peas. The thing in the pot is supposed to have big yellow flowers sometime, and the sunflower is doing better than any other sunflower I've ever grown. Progress!
I like this picture for some reason. It looks a bit arty farty.... so from the left we have: sage. Then two smaller pots with geraniums. At the back another Rose. It's probably white. But I got some pink ones too, so we could be unlucky there.
Unidentified things in a pot (could be Irises or Freesias. I think Freesias, which makes those in the previous picture probably Irises). At the front, the plant on the far left, you see a Tiger Lily. There's another on the right. Then some Lavender I grew from seed, a weedy looking sunflower, and 2 Roses. One of these is white, I'm sure! And an unidentified bush. Aldi did a good range of shrubbery this year! Not in the picture is a big tub with a Hydranga and some more unidentified things which may or may not be Tulips, Irises or Freesias. Don't ask me: Charlie Dimmock I ain't!
Ah... lovely! The Azalea flowered! Good, I was getting worried - aren't they related to Rhododendrons? I killed loads of those (unintentionally) last year). Next to it a Forsythia. It flowered just after I put it in, which is nice. Out of the picture is a Hydranga, which must be hardy because this is its third summer with me. And some other shrubs.
The Pumpkin patch!! I'm looking forward to Halloween when the Great Pumpkin will... whatever the Great Pumpkin does. This weekend I'm going to get rid of the Gruesomes' sand pit, and use the frame to make a proper "patch" for these proto-pumpkins. Fingers crossed that we get a pumpkin for our lantern.
I put this in a pot (bulb or tuber or whatever) last year. I had no idea what to do with it and forgot all about it until Gruesome #1 came running in one day, and dragged me out to see this! My type of plant: no maintenance. I like the blooms, which some call Kitsch - so I took a close up. During winter I forgot to cut it back or bring it in or whatever - so imagine my surprise when I was considering chucking out the soil from a pot when I realised something was growing. Not sure what it was (the memory isn't what it was, I left it to sink or swim. This year it was massive, and is still growing. All hail the Bleeding Heart.
It's actually inside, but how could I leave out my Shamrock? Lovingly grown from seed which I bought during a business trip to Limerick in August 2002, I was amazed that these sprouted at all. I'm just waiting for the leprachauns to turn up....
