| There is that person again, watching me from afar. I wonder what she thinks of me. Do I look cool? Is that why she watches? Or is there something funny with me that she likes to laugh about? I wish I knew. | ||||||||||||||||
| There is that person again; she is a little closer today. I still don't know why she watches me. Maybe I should say hi to her and talk to her for a while. But what would I say? Maybe some other time, I've only seen her twice. | ||||||||||||||||
| There is that person again; she's actually sitting with my friends. She seems to like to laugh a lot. Maybe that's why she is here. Today I think I'll say hi, but nothing else. I am a little shy. | ||||||||||||||||
| There is that person again; what was her name? She said hi back to me the other day and told me her name. But I forget. She is pretty nice, and my friends like her. I hope she will be my friend too sometime. I think I'll talk to her more now; she's not so strange up close. | ||||||||||||||||
| There is that person again; I can't wait to tell her about yesterday! We?ve become the best of friends now. Who knew that this would happen! She is always so happy, and likes to hear my news. I'll invite her to my house tonight, my family will love her! | ||||||||||||||||
| There is that person again; we had a great time. She doesn't look so well right now. I wonder what is wrong. She is still smiling, but I know it's not right. I hope she knows she can talk to me, I'll tell her again tonight. | ||||||||||||||||
| Where is that person today? She didn't say goodbye. We talked a little after school yesterday, but I think she left to cry. She's not here today, and I don't know why. I'll stop by after school tonight, and make sure she is alright. | ||||||||||||||||
| I found that person yesterday. She was at home like I thought. Something must be wrong there, but it doesn't matter to me. I took her away from there tonight, to let her be free. I still don't know what is wrong though. I guess I'll talk to mom. | ||||||||||||||||
| There is that person again; this time she is worried. I won't tell her what's going on, and she knows that I am sad. But she is there for me, and I guess that's what counts. I was there to worry about her and now I guess it's her time. I never would have guessed the friends that we would be when she was just that person that I still don't know. | ||||||||||||||||
| Abstract: Webste'?s New World Dictionary defines friend as "a person whom one knows well and is fond of; an ally, supporter, or sympathizer ( 1990)". Overall, Webster caught the gist of what it means, but not exactly. Knowing someone well isn't necessarily a standard or a set rule to be friends. Sometimes you can't show all of yourself, and your friends normally will understand that, mainly because they don't show all of themselves either. Webster left out a lot when he defined friend. There are emotions involved that can't be defined in a dictionary. | ||||||||||||||||
