Civic Engagement Write-up
In addititon to the information gathering, we had to write a personal write-up of our experience answering a few questions as best as we could.

Organization: Surf Club

What interested us about this club was that, first of all, we didnt know that PSU had a surf club, and second, that it would be interesting to know that a college in the valley would have one. We also thought that surfing was fun and it would be interesting to know more about the club and the people there.

Personally, I think I would love to join the club if I had more time and more money to actually buy the equipment to surf. Because I would be able to learn how to surf and meet other people around PSU that like to surf, and go on trips.

1. How would participating in this organization enrich my student experience at Portland State?
It would let me meet other student in that attend PSU that like to surf and it would give me some active and physical to do that I would enjoy.

2. While it may enrich my life, would my participation in this organization also enrich the life of others?
It would give others the same thing that it gave me. They would get to know me, and gain from meeting a new person and possibly gain a new friend. And once I learned how to surf, Id be able to help any new people that joined or came along for a visit.

3. Do I completely identify with the goals of the organization now, or is the organization of interest to me because I sort of have an idea as to what it might be about and want to know more?
The goal of the organization is to surf. I dont know how to surf but I would love to learn how to. So it interests me because I dont know how to surf and joining would give me a chance to learn.

4. Should I solely pursue my current interests when exploring organizations, or should I investigate potentially new interests that might expand my horizons? Why?
Well, I believe that pursuing current interests is always something that I love to do; I would not hold myself to solely those things. If I limited myself to only the things that I knew I liked, I would not find anything else that I might like, that I do not currently know about now. Expanding my horizons is something that I would love to keep doing, because it opens the world up to you and the world is so full of many different things and ideas and new things to learn about or to try. I believe that no one should ever solely pursue one thing, or just a current interest, because then they are blocking out the rest of the world and would potentially miss many new open doors around them.
