| Like Persephone and Demeter, my daughter and I are seperated by an hour's drive through this long winter so that she can finish high school with her father where she grew up, while I go on to make a start in the city. I even miss her endless messes and video games! I know how Demeter felt. |

| According to myth, Hades, the god of the Underworld, abducted the young goddess Kore to abide in the underworld among the dead. . He was harsh and rude; his kingdom dark and sunless. Below in the Underworld, Kore reigned with him as Persephone, his queen. Her mother, Demeter, went into such deep mourning at her daughter's loss that the world went barren and cold. After six months Persephone will graduate from high school --I mean, be released from the Underworld, and spring will come once again. |
