Power Point Narrative

Zoo Explorers Power point.

My power point project, is very relative to my classroom subjects, since I am a zoo educator my power point is an interactive lesson that explores some of the areas in the zoo. During the next few years I am going to be designing new interactive lessons for students to do while visiting the zoo. The power point I made will hopefully be used in one of our new education programs at the zoo. I decided to have this project correlate with a lesson I teach for third graders.
I’ll be showing about three different animals during my classroom presentation, one at the beginning at two at the end. The first slide and second slide is about bats and I will discuss the myths and legends that bats posses there is also a bat vocal sound on the second bat slide, and then show them a real bat for them to view. The texts on these slides I will emphasize and progress on with question. The 4th and 5th slide is about hippos, and a brief discussion will go along with the information presented on the slides, and talk about the hippo out in the park. The 6th and 7th slide is about cheetahs, the first cheetah slide has an action setting to the next slide. A question is asked on the slide and I would have the students in the class tell me which one they think it is, and that would lead us to even more info on cheetah, and a talk about the two cheetahs in the zoo.
I would conclude my presentation by proceeding to the last slide which concludes my animal information and then I would present the last two animals, which are the same animals on the slide! The macaw and the red-eyed tree frog, which the students should love, this would then follow a tour through the zoo to visit the animals we learned about in the presentation the hippo and cheetahs.

Excel Project Narrative

The purpose of this assignment is to teach the students the principles of aquarium biology. The students will test the aquarium water for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Ammonia is produced by fish waste and is toxic to the fish in higher levels. Bacteria develop that feed on the ammonia and convert it to a less toxic substance, nitrite. Nitrite can still be fatal to fish, but another bacterium develops that consumes the nitrite and converts it to nitrate, which is much less toxic and is easily removed through routine water changes. There is also another bacterium that can consume the nitrate, but it only occurs with certain types of filtration systems. The students will be taught these principles and see them in action by testing the aquarium and recording the results in a spreadsheet and graph. They will learn that even though the number of fish slowly increases, after the bacteria begin to cycle, the toxic chemicals will actually begin to diminish and eventually disappear.

Kidspiration Project

I choose to use Kidspiration to make up my class room activity. I actually downloaded both programs but decided to use Kidspiration because of the grade level I would like to teach.
I named my activity Reptiles are Radical. Reptiles are Radical is a activity that students can do to help them understand the characteristics of reptiles by placing the animals which they think best fit into the reptile class. On the activity, I placed a list of characteristics of reptiles and a picture of an alligator on the top of the activity worksheet, to get them thinking of some reptiles that we are familiar with. On the side I placed 8 different animals from different classes and three of these from the reptile’s class, students must select which one is a reptile and drag the picture to the box.
Once the students have selected the correct animals, we can then discuss why the other animals were not selected as reptiles. By using the characteristics list of the reptiles we can go through each animal and decide why they may or may not be considered reptiles. Further discussion of reptiles would be included by talking about reptiles that may live in the community or reptiles that students may have as pets.
