~The Rebirth of Romance~

I heard thunder echoing off, from faraway, that fateful day.
I was sitting on a beach, near Hakone, when she came to me, there by the sea

Violet had found me again, in my old spot.  I came every day, I supposed
I wasn't that hard to find.

She started very calmly, about how she left, and how she wept.
She asked me to come back, could I?  Would I?

I'm soaringover the waves
I'm soaringthrough the sky
She holds my hand, and asks me
To enfold her once more, there by the sea.

I have my choice.
My forgiveness or spite
To be with Violet once more,
Or righteously close the door.

Make no mistake, the choice that I make, comes not from a black heart
Numb and cold from the dark
Our love is dead, so instead, I must find my true angel
I'm not returning, time has left it's mark!

I suddenly feel free, and I tell Violet I am not returning.  She looks at me in shock
as I tell her I will never go through that again.  I run to the sea and stare at those
gray cloudsand then I say it again

Make no mistake, the choice that I make, comes not from a black heart
Numb and cold from the dark
Our love is dead, so instead, I must find my true angel
I'm not returning, time has left it's mark!

I feel the rain, to ease my pain, and I know inside, nothing has died.
I have everything back, and I can feel once more!
I'll find someone true, Violet it wasn't you, I've rediscovered pride.
And I'm never coming back!

I hear splashing behind me, footsteps, and as I turn I see her face in tears, tears my face once wore.

"But why!?  Come back with me!"

"No"  I say it calmly, almost regretfully.

"Come back with me"
I stop her lips gently with two fingertips.

"Why won't you?"

"I cannot, even if I wanted to"   I turn from her again and face the sea.
"Maybe we loved for the wrong reasonsI don't know.  Pride forbids me, we could never
really last, never really be happy.  How long would it be until this painful tragedy
was repeated?  Years ago I learned my lesson.  I'll find love again some day
with someone who will stay!!!"

Make no mistake, the choice that I make, comes not from a black heart
I'm so lonely, so angry, but love must be out thereI am the voice of the Past.
Numb and cold from the dark
I know I have a soul, I have withstood the pain, and lovedI am the voice of the Now.
Our love is dead, so instead, I must find my true angel
I'll find love at last
I'm not returning, time has left it's mark
But how?
Where is love?
We'll find ittogether!!!

And when two became one, and I knew I had won, and nothing had died!
I have everything back, and I can feel once more!
I'll find someone true, Violet it wasn't you, I've rediscovered my pride
And I'm never coming back!

I feel the rain, to ease my pain, and I know inside, nothing has died.
I have everything back, and I can feel once more!
I'll find someone true, Violet it wasn't you, I've rediscovered pride.
And I'm never coming back!

Violet I can never come back
~Old Photographs (Epilogue)~

That's all over nowit's been over for years.  Those years are nothing
but memoriesgold snapshots starting to gray a little with age.  With a little time
I was able to live with myself again.  I'm still playing the piano.  I'm still looking,
searching, for something, love, a purpose to my life.  Occasionally I think of Violet,
with a little bit of pity.  In the end, maybe she was the one who couldn't understand
love is not a game.  I just couldn't go back to her.  Those years after she left me were
the worst I had ever lived through.  I could never in a thousand lifetimes have chanced that
sort of agony againbut I'm not afraid to love.  One day soon, I'll have the courage
again, like that day in Hakone, there with the lapping tide.  The courage to bear my
naked feelings to someoneand maybe they will cherish them more than Violet did.
When forever has come and gone, lovers must remain at one another's sides, and when you truly care...love is no crime.  If anything else, know that love is not a diversion, a game, or a hobby.  Love is the only thing that gives anymeaning to this drab, empty existence we lead.  As I end this song I have to bid you goodbye, dear listener.

I hope that one day, you too will be enfolded by the colors of Romance
